Adam:

The rub rail and the cutwater look just fine,. The plans show you how the cutwter would have been made. It is not absolutely necessary to do it that way, but it looks better, even under a coat of paint. You will be able to see the joints, if only slightly. I think that will add a nice touch to the overall appearance.

Sign me up for the support group.  Usually when I need to make a scarph joint it's because I screwed something up so I stand on my head to make it disappear :)

Nice job Adam, this is the first time I've looked at your log. This is also the first time I've actually seen the use of molds to shape the hull. Very intersting and nicely done. Thanks for checking out my log, and for all of your pictures. I'll be following along also.

Gerty, John - thanks for stopping by and for the good words!  Appreciated greatly!!

I can't say I have done a great deal on this one, but am trying to move it forward, even if but a little bit.

Sadly - we had a small incident.  While moving something on the desk I bumped the Willie and down it went.   It caught the foot of my desk just right so it spun and landed keel side - which was good, didn't snap the cutwater.  Did however damage the keel.   So had to do a bit of repair work before moving along.  Replaced the section of damaged keel and will fill - sand - shape once the glue dries.

post-61-0-14500000-1375321427_thumb.jpg

Once that was attached I finished adding the headrails and getting them into place.

Again - not a huge jump in progress as they are just glued into place,  but once completely dry will sand and shape them a bit more and get them blended into the hull.

One of the great things about working with wood like this is it is rather forgiving in such instances. I am sure the repair will work out fine. Nice job on the head rails so far.

nice repair Adam.   I have a shelf in the hallway where I keep the builds I have in progress.......then, of course,  I have the two tables as well........works well to keep these sort of things from happening.   when the Goth hit the floor........well,  that was my own clumbsiness

Greetings all, thank you much for stopping by and taking a peek!

@Augie: yeah it was my first big bump - scared the crap out of me let me tell you.  I have since moved the projects not currently beign worked on to a cleared closet shelf!! :)

@Russ: Yes,  one of the things I am starting to truly appreciate about this hobby is the forgiveness factor of the medium!

@Popeye: ME TOO!, and it was your suggestion which got me to move them to the closet - out of the way and safe as can be :)

@Gerty: Thank you sir!!  Can't wait to see you back in action!

@Mischief: aww, sounds serious - can't be that bad!  But I have been there myself so I understand!!

@Bob: Thank you sir! and yes, right now slow and steady is the pace.  Just when I find some time - something comes along and snatches it up.  We have tried even scheduling time just for hobbies - and it is working .. but not ENOUGH hehehe!

Currently working on the decking, have some more hull details but the decking was just begging to be laid so have started on that.  Should have an update to that effect by the end of the weekend.

Thanks all

Till next time!

Enjoy!

it's as I mentioned........only one model can be worked on at a time.  I started this a long time ago.  I used to have a berthing shelf on the wall near the table,  where I would put the ship I was working on to clear the kitchen table.   when I started the hobby back up.......up went the shelf again {we had moved since then}.  when we moved here there is a hallway that only goes to our front door.  it's closed off,  so it is a dead space......no dust.   it's a perfect place to store the ones in progress

Adam,

Great repair job on the keel.  A couple months back after returning from a model club meeting, my Elco PT Boat did a nose dive out the truck door onto the driveway and ended up exactly in the middle underneath the truck (Murphy's Law).  I was almost sick to my stomach.  As it turned out it wasn't as bad as I first thought.  The fix only set me back a couple of days.  As always, keep those photos rolling in!

Well well well, Hidey Ho Good Neighbors!

It seems I have stumbled on a bit of good ole fashioned irony.

I took a break from they Mayflower due to the monotony of the stanchions and decided to work on this here Willie.  Laying the deck...

:blink::omg::blink:

The monotony of laying the decking!!!!!

/sigh.

Anywho - I definately have some more on the hull to do, but was itching to get some decking layed so went at it.  Very straightforward,  the hardest part so far is the trimming of the angles along the waterways, but other than that they are laying in pretty well.

I have not decided if I am going to go bare wood or paint the deck per the ship and the instructions. I think a lot of that will have to do with how clean I can (or can't) get the edges for bare wood.   I really like the look of bare wood, but we shall see!!

Here is where the Willie sits so far, still a bit to go.. but onward we trudge!!!

That decking looks sharp, Adam.  I like the natural look as well - but as you say, part of the decision will hinge on how the edges etc. turn out.

Are you planning to plank the full deck or leave some un-planked to show off the framing?
