Hmmm. No response to Greg's request. What happened in San Diego stays in San Diego? We who could not be there are now growing very suspicious....

I have some pictures of the models I can post, but am still working on 'processing' them.  I'll start posting on the morrow.

I want to add my special thanks for including me as a speaker (co-speaker, really) on Japanese boat modeling, and with one of the round table discussions. I don't know that everyone got a lot out of it, but it turned out pretty well overall and people I talked to afterwards seemed very appreciative.

Regarding the fire, I was one of those at the bar, so it was more exciting than scary or unpleasant. Lots of blinky lights and alarm noise.

On the unrelated emergency on Friday, any word on how Michel Mantin is doing?

Last word I had was that he was released from the hospital either Sunday afternoon or Monday.

I attended the NRG Conference in San Diego and had a really good time.  I enjoyed the presentations and the round tables.  I took lots of pictures and met many MSW members there.  San Diego was the ideal place to hold a nautical themed Conference.  There was so much to see and not enough time, even though my wife and I were there for a week.  There were a lot of ship models on display that were brought in by Conference attendees and I have attached some pictures of them.

Here is a picture of Brian Weikert's Armed Virginia Sloop.  I took many pictures of the details on this model but failed to take an overall picture of the entire model.  This is one of the nicest AVS model that I have seen.  You can check out his build log (GuntherMT) by clicking here: Armed Virginia Sloop

Some more pictures of the Conference:

Ken Foran (xken on MSW) did an excellent presentation on Brass Work in Modeling.

Here are two of his models that he brought to the Conference:

Notice his Constitution in the background.

Here is Dave Yotter giving a round table session on using jeweler's tools.  He must have a large inventory of tools as he seemed to have a tool for any modeling need.

P1030662.jpg

Here is Mike Lonnecker giving a roundtable presentation on building a Swan model.  He was assisted in this presentation by Toni Levine, Bill Maxwell and Don Leyman.

Here are some photos of the excitement with the seventh floor fire on Saturday night.  Those rubber backed curtains really created a lot of smoke.

The last group of pictures Ryland posted were from the miniature display currently on the Berkeley.  To give you an idea of the scale, if I recall the AGAMEMNON is about 5 inches long and the VICTORY is about 6 inches long.  "Holy cow!" indeed.

I thought they were quite a bit smaller than that, but I'm bad at size estimating.  I took pictures of this display when I was at the museum a month before the show, but for some reason I never took my camera down to the model room at the show to take any pictures of the models there, which is a shame as there were some great models on display.  I'm glad Ryland and some others got photo's!

Here are some photo's of some of the models on the display in the Berkeley that I took in September.

Thanks for the pictures, Brian.  It's been probably 10 years since I visited the Berkeley.   I think at some point a road trip is in order as it looks like a lot of models have been added.
