Hi all

Question please... Can anyone give me any tips on how I can turn copper wire Black? I am after a solution that does the job as painting is a no no. I am doing my dead eyes and strops on my brig supply and the little mm loops they give you to wrap round the dead eye are fine until you push the dead eye into them and the bottom open up preventing the strop from attaching.

I have decided to use copper wire on the dead eye and make my own loops to hold the strops but the copper wire I have is very shiny indeed so I am as such looking to see if I can turn the wire black.

Many thanks

Look up Carr's Metal black

The one for brass works effectively on copper.

Liver of Sulfur works well and won't stain the wood.   Googling shows quite a few places to buy it.

Liver of Sulfur is great for this. I suggest you buy the gel version of it - readily available on line.
