Hello all, I have done a lot of wood working and plastic model building in the past but decided to move into this side of the hobby. I just received my first kit for Christmas and I must say after reading the instruction booklet and looking at all the parts I am a bit overwhelmed. Any help with tool suggestions and must haves would be extremely helpful. The kit I have is the SYREN, US BRIG 1803. I am looking forward to getting started since it is cold out and working on other projects in the garage is not really an option.

Welcome to MSW.

If you'll go here:  http://modelshipworl...d-downloads.php  and look in the tools section, there's articles on basic tools and also ones to avoid.

As for Syren, do a search using the Search feature in the upper right hand corner of the kit builds page.  There's quite a few Syren builds here and the kit designer is an admin here also.

Do consider starting a build log as it's the fastest way to get help and feedback.  A build log can be the best tool in your toolbox.

Welcome aboard,

It is great to have you here. Can you please tell us your name?
I agree with Mark, starting a buildlog is the fasted way to get help, advise and encouragement.
There are a lot people here who are willing to answer any questions you might have.

I wish you smooth sailing and happy modeling.

Welcome to MSW. You have been given some great advice already so I won't repeat that. What I will say is to join in with encouraging you to start a build log. Questions can much more easily be answered if we can follow along with what is going on and see pictures of it. Also I will add that there is no rush in building these ships. Go slow and be sure to understand all that you are doing Also read ahead through the next several steps. This will help to make sure you don;t overlook something that gets covered up and may help to explain why the instructions have you do certain things.

Best of luck to you on your first build and I look forward to seeing your work!
