Hello all,

We are all builders, but I think we probably have other hobbies and interests.

I was wondering what your other hobbies or interests are besides building.

Here are a few of my other hobbies besides model ship building.

I love reading books, my favourite authors are Clive Cussler, Tom Clancy, J.K. Rowling (Harry Potter as in you know who).

Photography, especially nature as you can see in the pictures. And fishing.

Hi.
I like to walk long distance on my local hills ( Dartmoor ) it's so peaceful up there. I prefer to do 2 or 3 days walks.
Also scuba diving.. In the water tonight tomorow and Tuesday this week. I am NOT a deep diver but I like to look at the marine life.
I also fly model airoplanes.
I also as a hobby convert toys for disabled children to enable them to operate the toy with there disability.

This list keeps me fit , happy mind and feel good in my self.

I have been in the past very active in stationary steam engines and old staionary engines and there preservation having two in the garden and two in the workshop and several in a charitable museum of which I was chairman for several years, in all about 20 years working some weeks over 20 hours in preservation on top of my day time job. Taken a bit of a back seat this last year to spend more time with the admiral well 20 years of weekends had to come to an end sometime. So now I have my models to play with but at least I am at home. The big trouble was I changed jobs about 5 years ago and I do so much more work away from home so something had to change.

Hello Jim,

That's a great picture.

What kind of bird is that?

I never see one!

It looks like a stork …..

Hi all:

My other hobby is decorative bird carving. I carve life size and miniature birds of prey, songbirds, and wading birds. At the moment I'm in Ocean City MD at the Ward World competition, where I entered a Green Heron in the Intermedite level of competition.

I also enjoy bicycling - road cycling in particular. Lets me get away from the workbench for some good exercise.

Sjors,

The bird is a Darter - here's another one.

35787. Darter Homebush Standard e-mail view.jpg

They're fun to watch on the water as they swim with their bodies submerged and just their long neck sticking up like a periscope! :)

Besides ship modelling, I have another time-consuming hobby, i.e. video filming and editing. I make mainly travelogues of trips I made with my wife after my retirement (a bit early at 59, due to a heart condition).

I put extracts of some videos on Vimeo. If you want to take a look, just click here.

Hi Frank,

Do you have some pictures from the carving?
I think that more of us will want to see that.
