What I am looking for is a way to capture a picture (profile) of the model I am going to make/paint, and then apply different colors to the image on the computer so I could envision how my finished model would look with different paint schemes. They shut down the registration servers, published keys and provided downloads for the software. So you could get Photoshop CS5 for free. OTher than that Gimp would work as well. The major trouble you are going to run into is the editing of the picture. Most people will try to paint, or fill the areas with the color they want which ends up making a photograph look very much like a childs drawing on the refridgerator (not that that is bad just not helpful ) What you want, or my suggestion is, find an app that allows for color tinting or modifiying. BANYAN Posted July 22, 2013 Share #4 Posted July 22, 2013 pppilot, From what you have said, I am assuming that the underlying drawing will be just that a scanned profile etc of the ship. The easiest way I can think of trying various paint schemes would be to trace over the diagram or at least create 'closed' sections of the releant parts of the drawing. That way you can use any software, even MS Paint, to 'fill' the sections with your various options of colours. If you make the scanned image transparent, you can send the coloured sections to the back so you can see the detail over the colour sections. Your selected paint software may even allow you to set the various RGB variables to match some of the colours you have in mind. This way you don't need fancy software. Simply scan you image (assuming a black and white drawing/plan or the loke) in as a format that allows you to set the white as a transparent colour. The link is a true Adobe one. No hack, nothing suspicious, no virus. It's an old version but probably more than we need. Currently Adobe has all the CS2 version free for download, you have to register and then it's all to go. See provided link, be patient, sometimes due to heavy traffic you won't be able access, just wait and then give it another try. catopower Posted July 24, 2013 Share #6 Posted July 24, 2013 Hi PPPilot, the CS2 idea would be good if you have an old Mac. I have CS2 running on an old G5 machine running OS 10.5.8. I think CS2 may work on 10.6, but if you have anything more recent than that then CS2 will not run at all. If you have a newer system, you can get the 30 day free trial of Photoshop for the Creative Cloud. That's the current version. It requires, OS 10.7 or later I believe. Of course, there is that Photoshop learning curve, but it's a good product to know. If you need to use it only on occasion, it's subscription based now, so you can just pay for a month when you really need it and be done with it after that.
