proxxon fine table saw fet

Recommended Posts

I bought this about 3 years ago, and have only just operated it for the first time, is it adequate to do a semi scratch build, or do i rearly  need a brynes saw

Its all part of Kev's journey, bit like going to the dark side, but with the lights on

It took you 3 years to play with it????? Hell of a lot more self control than me!!! I have the smaller Proxxon table saw - the KS 230. I looked at the FET but didn't think I could justify the extra $$$$.  I have been using the KS for about 3 years and it is adequate for my needs - mainly bashing.  I note that the FET is now around $600 Aussie Dollars - about 330 of your pounds. If I had spent that much on an FET,  I would be using it on my next build and then making a decision on whether it is up to scratch or not. According to many, many threads on this site, the Byrnes machine is unmatched but I'd have to agree with Ponto on this one.

Kevin,

Just going on what I Googled.. it should work for scratch building.  It's very similar to the MicroMark table saw which I find is adequate.  My MM saw uses a 3-inch blade compared to the Byrnes 4-inch and doesn't have nearly the power.  It's also not as accurate.   But.. the Byrnes is the Rolls-Royce of mini table saws. :)

Given that you're using a timbering kit, the saw will be useful once you get the hang of it and figure out it's quirks and strong points.

And if I were to buy a new saw to replace the one I have.. I'd probably opt for the Byrnes though I do have a pile of accessories I'd have to toss in the bin.

the reason i bought it was because at the time i was doing to do the Triton build, but then as now doubted my abilities to do such a project, hence the 1/72 Victory came into my life so i never used it

I usually raid under the Christmas Tree at about 2am on Christmas morning. Not able to resist playing with any new toys that come my way Kevin. In the case of a new saw, I would probably test it by cutting the handle off the Admiral's broom or something equally inappropriate. Your restraint is admirable.

Kevin, I have a fine fretsaw ( scroll saw ) and a Byrnes table saw. They both have different uses.

Was it hard to get the Byrnes saw to Australia ?

Also what is a good brand for Fret saw in Australia, the Bunnings ones seem a bit dinky.
