An exciting day for me as I just took delivery of my dream model. I plan to build her as Ethalion (1797), one of her sister ships in the Artois class. (As soon as I finish Sherborne of course ;) )

Only to myself I assure you, Allan :) I have that modeller's bug bad... always looking at the next model. But I think in Ethalion I may have found my modelling home... for a while, at least ;)

The rebuke was from other than shipmodelers :D   We are a much more forgiving and friendly group here at MSW than the rest of the world.

Got another surprise in the mail yesterday from the same 8 MSW members who sent me the boxes of seasonal goodies last week. Brought a tear to my eye. I am so blessed to have found this forum and all the great people who are its members. I wont keep naming names but you know who you are- you guys are the best! Been through quite a long sick spell or two while battling a chronic illness and having another potential health scare my holiday time has not been very good but the kind hearts of many MSW members have lifted my spirits and I am truly grateful.l Now to get well enough to get back to my build log!

I want to have a spread of model types and years, so I've bought some more modern sailboat and power boat kits.

I saw that Lindberg was re-issuing two 50s era power boat kits so I got them. The Owens Cruiser and the Coronado. The Coranado is different in that it had a sliding hard top, rather than a canvas soft top.

Both are 1959 models, and the Coranado makes me think about the 16' power boat my Grandfather built at his camp, over a couple years, about 1960, when I was 5 years old.

Both kits have a fair amount of chromed parts. Don't know yet if I'll use them as is, or remove the chrome and paint them silver. Silver is closer to how I think they would look from a didtance in real life. Chromed parts are a pain to work with too.

Hi All,

This was delivered last week but I only returned home this afternoon to get my grubby little paws on it.  It is the MK1 Design, Deluxe Pack Detail Set with wooden deck, which was my Christmas present from the Admiral and is for the plastic 1:200 scale Mikasa posted previously.  I found the cost of this detail set, despite being on sale at the time, to be excessive considering in some cases it is around the same price or dearer than World War II battleship kits twice the size of the Mikasa.

On the whole it looks very good with lots of turned brass, castings, photo etch and also a gold plated Chrysanthemum for the bow.  I have worked with some photo-etch details in the past and this should just be much more of the same…hopefully LOL.  There are some nice touches such as pre-coloured photo-etch for the signal flags, semaphores etc.  This is my first time with wooden deck sheets and on the whole they look very nice.  Will spend some time having a good look at it later but don't want to disturb the packaging as I have no idea when I will get round to starting the Mikasa; currently working on the card Borodino and there are still a number of other card ships I want to build.

That's a beauty of a PE set, Slog. You are going to have some fun with that. All those nice tiny, shiny parts ... you can nearly build the kit from brass alone !!!

I for certain want to see that buildlog

Cheers

I got both kits of the power boats off Ebay. Just glad I didn't bid on one of the original Owens kits from the 50s that was on Ebay a while ago! It went for big bucks.
