Tom on page 443 of the USS constitution build, what thickness of styrene were you using? All I have is .020 and seems too thin. Thanks in advance.

Using a moulding scraper tool?
Burroak replied to alde's topic in Modeling tools and Workshop Equipment
I have the micro scrapers and after a little practice I found that the basswood that a lot of models come with seems to be too soft. I used pear wood and held the scraper straight up at 90 degrees and they worked great. These micro scrapers don't have a burr edge so holding at an angle didn't work at all for me. Straight up worked best for me. -
Copper plating tape.
Burroak replied to Burroak's topic in Building, Framing, Planking and plating a ships hull and deck
Thank you to everyone for your help. This is my first attempt at wooden ship building and I truly am enjoying it. The tape stayed down for about two weeks and then slowly started lifting. I'm probably mishandling the tape with my fingers touching the sticky side too much as was stated. I wish there was a video I could watch of someone actually putting on the copper tape so I could see how they are doing it. I learn easier by watching someone do a project. Thanks again. -
Copper plating tape.
Burroak replied to Burroak's topic in Building, Framing, Planking and plating a ships hull and deck
My copper tape is lifting up where it overlaps the adjacent tape. I burnish it well, so I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. Is there a fix or do I need to start over? Thanks -

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
