  1. Well thanks for all the comments and the correct answer was that this piece was actually two pieces for the sprit sail. I had to cut them to length and they sized up perfectly. Very cost effective way to manufacture two pieces in one. Thanks again for all the suggestions which clicked in eventually. Jollymillar.
  2. Need some real help here !!!! I am reviewing the mast assemblies on the Billings Wasa and came across one piece that stumped me. Can anyone help with were this peice is from and were it goes. ????????

Coming along nicely, long way to go but the winter is here along with the Covid 19 so should get quite a bit done.... Stay safe everyone. JM

  5. Chris thanks for the comments on my boat... Much appreciated....this is the latest pic I have on how far along I am..... OK now to the other stuff...... I have looked at the Corel plans and boats but in my opinion the Billings is much more superior, and I found this out over time. My actual model was bought from the Wasa Museum in Sweden by my daughter when she visited there. So that was the kit I got. So no choice on my part, but coming from the museum I was quite impressed. I do not know if the museum sells the Corel. As I went on I saw the Billings was the more accurate plans to the original in the museum. With that said the plans leave a lot to be desired and lots si lest to your own discretion, and need to be scrutinized them very carefully before you put any part together.... sometimes they are clear and sometimes not. Asking questions of the Wasa group is also very helpful and reviewing the photos posted helps a great deal...... The photos can get mixed up between the Corel and Billings and they are not always indicated which ones are which, but you get to know the differences after awhile. Contacting the museum itself thro' thier web site amazed me. They replied almost immediately. Very impressed. I have made a number of mistakes and had to put them right but that is the challenge of a very challenging boat build. There are four (40inchx30inch) drawings very detailed and to scale. Two short booklets to help you along the way. I have attached the two booklets which are available from the Billings Boat web site. I hope this helps. I have done two other Billings Boats and love them and I would only choose them but I have been gifted an Artesiana Latina make of the Mayflower so that will be interesting..... Take care Chris and stay safe down there... always willing to help which I have found all the members are. JM BB490 Wasa_Instruction.pdf BB490 Wasa_Instruction-2.pdf
  6. Thabks for the information Allan... Ihave not done any on my other boats but have seen some on the Corel model, and thought maybe this was the way to go..... I will pass in them..... so the nails are for tacking planks ect...... never gave that a thought as I use my own nails... so thanks for the tip .. JM
  7. To all WASA Billings builders. Just planning ahead to finish off the planking on my build and have seen a number of nailed hulls (with a lot of nails). My kit does not supply nails in any number to complete a hull nailing task. (52 nails...whatever they are for ??) I can order the nails and lay them out on the hull.. time consuming but no problem really. some builds appear to have not used nails at all...... could always use pin holes then varnish which would appear to be nails..... I think... Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated from anyone... Thanks JM

  9. Ian, thanks for the comments.... this is the most difficult kit I have done and I can see why you gave up on it. There are still a number of issues with the guidelines and the drawings but I have found that the help I get from the site is fantastic. The kits are much better now so try a wooden ship again and let it rip !!!! Take care and stay safe. JM
  10. Backer...... Thankyou for your reply.... Looked everywhere but no rudder assemblies at all. I did find an online shop in Toronto where I have purchased rudder assemblies (Gudgeons & Pintles ) https://www.castyouranchorhobby.com/Category/gudgeons_pintles They will need modifying but better that than making them from scratch. Thanks you again for the picture and information. Just to finish your craftmanship is outstanding....... Stay safe. JM
  11. Currently working on the transom and rudder assembly.... well if I could find the rudder assembly. ! Anyone aware of how the rudder is attached? It looks like I will have to make the assemblies from scratch. Is this right or am I missing something? nothing surprises with this kit..... Quite challenging but perfect covid project..... stay safe everyone... JM
