  1. Hello! I am thinking of adding a dockyard scene to my 1920's GWR railway layout, and was wondering if there were any kits wooden or plastic ) out there of a tramp steamer or coaster of that period in OO scale? Thanks in advance for any advice you can give me. Cheers!
  2. Hello! I am considering purchasing the Caldercraft HMS Sherbourne cutter kit as my second go at a wooden ship model, and was wondering about the armament that goes with this model. The kit itself comes with 8 carriage guns and 10 swivels. Would it be realistic to add a couple of carronades to this array, and do away with the swivel guns, or would it make the cutter look too overgunned? I was going to rename my fictitious cutter HMS Greyhound, and wanted just a bit of difference to it. Thanks for any advice you can give me.
  3. Hello! I am considering purchasing the Caldercraft HMS Sherbourne cutter kit as my second go at a wooden ship model, and was wondering about thepaint set that goes with this model. In particular, the yellow ochre paint; is it a bright yellow, or does it have more of a slight orange tinge to it ( which I would think would be closer in keeping to the Nelson chequer, which I would like to paint her in...)? Thanks for any advice you can give me.
  4. Hello! Regarding the Caldercraft bomb ketch HMS Convulsion, could I paint her outer sides in yellow ochre and black trim ( like the Nelson chequer design, which I admire so much ) and still have a reasonably accurate model? Or should her sides be left basically in a natural wood ( as shown in the kit illustration )? Thanks for any advice you can supply me with.
  5. Hello! I am close to completing the Artesania Latina Bounty jolly boat as my first wooden model, and have enjoyed the process thoroughly. However, the running rigging to the jibs and mainsail; how should these lines be attached to the hull? There are no belaying pins in this kit, and the illustrated instruction sheet is vague about the attachments. Any advice / suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help. Gordon
  6. Hello! I am presently constructing the Artesania Latina kit of HMS Bounty's jolly boat, as my first wooden ship kit. Although I have enjoyed building plastic model kits for over forty years, there are some new challenges, I find, to wooden models! For example, I have just finished my very first lanyards and deadeyes for the jolly boat. Nevertheless, it is a very enjoyable learning experience. With this in mind, I am encouraged enough to be starting to look ahead to another wooden ship kit, once this jolly boat is finished. One kit that has really caught my eye is the Caldercraft model of the bomb ketch HMS Convulsion, which features plank on bulkhead construction, somewhat different from my jolly boat. Is this a good choice for a second model, or am I leaping too far ahead of myself? Thanks in advance for any feedback / suggestions you can give me.
  7. Hello! I am presently enjoying assembling Artesania Latina's 1/25 scale Bounty jolly boat. Everything is going well, but I have two questions; first, does anyone know if there is a scale White Ensign flag I can purchase that would fit well with this scale model? ( It could also be a red or blue ensign c. 1800, as well ) I would like to rig it from a flagstaff trailing over the stern. Also, the carronade that comes with the kit to me just doesn't seem right placed just to the side of the tiller in the stern. Could it also be placed in the bow ( eg. the bowsprit is offset to starboard, maybe the gun could be offset to port ) and still appear authentic? Thanks so much in advance for any advice you can supply me with. Cheers!
