It's been a busy time of year, finally spent a few hours on the boat

Here I measured and placed the pin rack and the grating on the deck

The wonderful kit provided posts were too small for the 1.5x3mm walnut pin rack so I went to a 1mmx3mm walnut piece, worked fine

The grating was a pain in the a*s, first time making one, at least now I know how to do it correctly.  lol

I haven't had a chance to touch up the grates yet, just wanted to get them placed.  Also I need to do some fins touched on the cabin door yet, a little raw

Hi Casey, is this the ship model you are talking about modifying with the wheel? If so, my personal suggestion would be right in the middle of the upper deck. The area I circled in yellow over the centerline plank would be a good placement. I really like the ketch rigs myself and some day will make a model of one.

I must admit this build has been tougher than I expected.  The parts are very small and very difficult to work with at my level of experience.  The positive is that I am learning a ton from this build, can't wait to get it set for rigging.  That will be quite the challenge.

i have found the parts to be poorly cast and brittle.

I am in the process of adding a wheel.  and it's slightly forward of the circle.  I need to decide on a compass case or something also.

Here is a illustration I photo'd of a compass binnacle from the book Historic Ship Models by Wolfram zu Mondfeld. I will be using this same binnacle on my model of Brig Eagle with some potential modifications. Mr. Mondfeld says how warships would have two compasses with a lantern in the middle station, merchant ships would be the opposite.
