This ship was overhauled and rebuilt several times, effectively changing from a twelve gun schooner to a fourteen gun topsail schooner and eventually to a brig rigged ship. I’m ready to begin, but the wife had otherplans, I could not start until she went to work the next day. Although I knew I had this kit (I was with herwhen she brought it, just to make sure it was the right one). J This is the first wooden kit i have ever built i have built a few wooden planes when I was a kid, and Plastic kits. So we shell she how this goes. Keel was a little warped socked it in a littlehot water and waited it for a few hours for try get the warp out, not pined iton the plinth of wood (for storage) Ribs glued and checked for squareness. Only problem I have come up with yet, and I havere read the manual a few times over is the 5mm holes needed for the mast. Do IPre drill before a plank the deck? Rich.F Posted February 15, 2013 Author Share #3 Posted February 15, 2013 Not sure what I wrote for these Pictures, I'll prob edit this later But as you can see I planked the deck and the poop deck, I did not really like it as I read the manual wrong, I cut the strips 60mm instead of the 100mm. From past comments and we discussed the will be a lot of activity on the deck not to really notice. Although I was tempted to go in to costa and borrow a few of the little wood stirrers. Quote Rich. I Glued the stem to soon I managed to cut it out. fill and re attach. Was not trying to ruch, More thought it would be better to plank to it for a neater edge. All though i had to take them off again as the 2x2mm strips x3 each side needed to cover rough tree timbers, but was not that level to the edge the upper wales. Ill sand that and re paint. once the glue drys tomorrow ill up load a picture or two. before i sand it. Quote Rich. Rich.F Posted February 23, 2013 Author Share #14 Posted February 23, 2013 (edited) Last few days been playing with the lower wales, and when i mean playing, getting a little stressed. placed them, taped them, got up Friday before work about 0630, tea in hand, stopped looked at the box, back at the box realized, that i had not placed it in the right place, Darn it!!. Stripped it off before work using my caliper Micrometer, measured of the drawing and i was out in the middle by a few mm. did make a difference. I should be able to get it up and running by next week. Haven't made too much progress on my build because of the travel, i am about 1/2 way thru the first planking of the hull. Question for you: I couldn't tell from the instruction manual what would stock to use on the 2nd planking? I am thinking it should be the .5MM thick Sapelly. The first planking is done with the 2mm think Sapelly.... but on page 26 it appears as though it instructs to use the 2MM Sapelly....what did you do? I'm lost. Yes i use the 0.4mm x 6mm strips for the second layer, If I remember you asked about the stem. I did place this before i planked the first layer but then removed it filled it with the same side wood i use on the first layer, then put it back on, sanded the hull to fit to a good point, (sanded the entire hull to a smooth finish, then layered the second layer up to the stem, to keep the nice cut shape. hope this makes sense, if not let me know Regards Rich Quote Rich. Sam, I found the rudder a little fiddley, as I needed to cut the pins down in size to pin the hinges in place, but they kept on disappearing. LOL Adrieke 1 Quote Rich. In the parts department a few damaged items so have been unable to build the Head Rails and the Braces, Well in the contraction they got damaged, so waiting on the delivery of new stock and some new 0.6, 0.8, 1.0 mm drill bits. so really cant to much more till it arrives. As for my build, stagnating.... work has been keeping me pretty busy since mid January. 10-12 hour days 7 days a week. We are supposed to finish tonight, then I can start building again. Used the wife hair straighteners, dipped the wood in water for a minute or two, repeated until the curves matched the drawing. I don't think that came out to bad at all, condescending. after looking at these pictures im going to spend the next few days cleaning up the paint work.
