a question for Sherline mill owners

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I have been considering a Sherline mill. I see that the motor is mounted on the right side (as you face it).

I am concerned that, being right handed, the motor would get in the way of using the height adjustment.

I would appreciate any thoughts.

Thanks

Richard.

Works fine for this rightie, Richard. I often rest my wrist on the motor casing while adjusting the height. Actually makes fine adjustments easier I find.

Ditto, I have the extended bed and vertical riser and find it easy enough to use.  The motor position has not been an issue at all when it comes to ergonomics etc..

cheers

I use my right hand for the X & Y adjustment on the front and right side of the bed and my left hand for the Z adjustment at the top. I'm right handed but I would have to do it this way even if I was left handed. I think you have to become somewhat ambidextrous to use a mill no matter what. It's not a large learning curve though. You just practice a little on something to get used to it.
