And now in the bright light of day, the shrouds and ralines have been rigged on all four masts. I will now move up a bit and set the remainder of the furled staysails followed by the standing rigging. When all that is complete, I will move on to the 25 yards!

Nice ship Bob, your skills are impressive to convince us at this scale! My choice with present build was initially going to be the Parma, but liked the charm of the wooden ship. The Tuft does compare to Mozart almost, so really there are so many ships to do yet that have not been done that much..Herzogin Cecilie, Viking, lots of Erickson ships....stop me if I'm rambling...

I am now moving ahead again on FALLS OF FOYERS after having been delayed trying to sort out computer problems. I hope I am at last back to normal again.
All the furled fore-and-aft sails have been fitted and rigged. The lower mast and topmast shrouds and ratlines have been made and fitted. Now about to move on to t'gallant shrouds and ratlines and completion of standing rigging.

A lot of progress has been made today. All the shrouds and ratlines (lower, topmasts & t'gallant masts) have been made and fitted with well over 1,000 soldered joints in them. The remainder of the rigging will be glued on. The topmast & t'gallant halliards have been rigged on all four masts and the standing rigging on the bowsprit has been completed.
Too dark for photographs at the moment!

I have now completed all the standing rigging. I now have to make and fit the 25 yards together with their furled sails.

Nice model of a noce ship!
Just a question: that large round black thing in the middle: what is it?
Looks like some oversized kettle Confused

Hello Jan,
You are closer than you think with the "over-sized kettle description!" The black thing is the donkey boiler. Inside the deckhouse was a small donkey engine. This engine could be connected up to the pumps, capstans or winch and could be used for heavier work on deck or aloft, even cargo handling. It played no part in the propulsion of the ship, just the heavy "donkey-work" when necessary. They were quite common in large iron and steel sailing ships, but a lot of captains were reluctant to use them because of the expense of the coal they burned!

It's nice seeing the rapid progress one can make when working at small scale. To get to the same point at 1:48 takes months! I always enjoy seeing your models take form. Thanks for sharing.

Bob,
I truly appreciate your build. It is amazing to watch such detail come together in such a small scale.
Thank you,
Dusty
