Wow!

I just found your build log after looking at a few of your neat and helpful "inventions".

Very impressive to say the least. I have little experience, and no real tools to speak of other than a few razor saws, mini files, and exacto blades, but I have a feeling that my next build (second one, and first planked) will be slow going and full of those added little details.

Keep up the great work and advice for those of us just getting started. Very Happy

Thank you eepersan,

When you start your model, start a Build Log of your own .... if you need any advice on ANYTHING this is the best way to get it - someone on this great Site will know the answer to any question you may have, or give you advice on something that may be a problem you're not aware of yet.

They're a great bunch of guys and gals here.

A good read, Danny

Hi Danny,

Your work is as fine as your help has been. Maybe I can return a small favor. I used a product called Morope for the cannon rigging on my AVS. I have purchased quite a bit of out for more rigging and ratlines. It is made in Germany and shipped all over the world. you can find Morope here. It comes in diameters as small as 0.10 mm up to 2.5 mm. you simply send an e-mail and they will ship it. I loved working with it. Only 1 warning. you need to use some CA before cutting it to length or it will unravel. Let me know if you decide to try it.

Hi David,

I've had a look at Morope before on the Net. I'm told it's very good, but also very expensive Shocked , especially to ship to Australia.

For the quantities I'm going to need it'll be out of my price range. I'll probably finish up buying or building a Rope Walk and make my own (eventually).

A good read, Danny

Hi all,

Bernie asked earlier whether I'd be turning my own Carronade Barrels - I don't really have much choice .... 1:56 scale 12-pounder Carronade Barrels aren't readily available from any source that I'm aware of Shocked .

Pic 1. I roughed out all four Barrels in one go out of a piece of 6mm round bar - largest finished size was 5.2mm. I shaped them with the bands in place, and cut the cascabel down to size.

Pic 2. Then I cut them to length and used my Compound Slide to make the first taper - it's a bit scary working at 0.5mm from the chuck Shocked .

Pic 3. I drilled the bore out to 2mm.

Then I did the back end - I tapered one piece using the Compound Slide and "freehanded" the rounded part.

Pic 4. Not a bad effort - all four turned out identically.

Pic 5. I drilled out the 1.6mm Trunnion holes in my Mill and fitted the Trunnions - a bit of CA secures them.

I've also made the Carriages out of some of Bernie's EXCELLENT Cherry Ballart - this stuff is so close grained that I could cut out the semi-circular holes for the trunnions (not shown in these pics) with a sharp blade (I'd forgotten to do them while I had the pieces in the Mill Embarassed ).

I Milled the steps into the Carriages (I forgot to take pictures Embarassed ) in one piece, and then sliced the eight pieces off on the Table Saw.

A good read, Danny

Those carronades look really nice Danny. How are you going to fit the ring at the back of them?
