PostPosted: Wed May 16, 2007 2:42 pm    Post subject: Oil lamps

Hi mates. After a time of bad mood…I got back working on my “Peramataki”. It will be a fishing boat so I want to add (among other things) and an oil lamp…certainly by scratched. Here is what I did…

_I took a small piece of a wooden rod close to the diameter of the oil lamp that I wanted to build. I made a hole with my rotary tool and when the drill appeared from the other side I widened the second hole so nailing… a toothpick (side to the drill) I secured the rod on the drill. So I had an off-hand lathe….

_With a file I carved and cut the rod to the shapes showing on photo.
(Wearing protection glasses) Exclamation

_Then with a pin’s head, as a cap, a piece of plastic glass (from a ballpoint) and little wire as a handle I made a compose …

_With the items showing on photo and some extra side holes… I had a second version of an oil lamp.

_Sealing the holes and painting I think I have the oil lamps for my fishing boat.

Many thanks

I love these little lamps Thanasis. They are the coolest things I've seen in a long time. I have to make some for me. I'm definitely adding this tip to my tip collection.

Thanasis:
That's really nice work. I like the method and the materials. I have never seen an oil lamp modeled at scale, but this really is a fine piece of work.

I wonder how hard it would be to add a tiny LED or a grain-of-wheat bulb in it.

Thanasis,

What a great lamp! Shocked I don't know how you do it, but you have some of the most creative solutions to modeling problems that I've seen. Very well done indeed!
