G'day all, just like to share a jig I have made for setting up deadeyes to the correct height, it is adjustable so it can be used on any of the deadeyes and it only needs a piece of board cut to the height you want to act as a gauge.

It seams like a simple enough jig. Best jigs are simple ones. You have good ideas neptune.

Now that's an idea that could be manufactured and sold. A very simple jig and can adjust to any need. Someone could make a whole lot of money on this one. I can see it now on the pages of Micro Mark.

Hello Neptune,

Very clever jib. I agree with Dave Teel -- that one looks marketable.

Good old Aussie know how at work, excellent little gadget. I have tried the paper clips, MIG wire all worked but only so so, and not very reliable at that. But this little one is a beauty, can't fail.

Neptune,

Great idea! I've used the fixed distance bent crossed wire jig in the past, and it was OK for a couple of similar length deadeye spacings. Yours though, solves the spacing issue of large men-of-war or clipper like ships with many shroud lines, where there are significant deadeye spacing length distance differences between the aftmost end shroud lines (longest) and the vertical (short) lines on a given mast. Very clever idea indeed. pirate1

On my current brig build I've just finished the hull, and in making my chain plates (4 links per shroud line) I didn't get their lengths even - your little clever jig will allow me to set the upper deadeyes in a nice, even offset from the main rail. How very timely!

I'll be firing up the butane torch and silver solder soon!

Many thanks,

I meant to mention that if your channel will allow you can set the jig up the other way and it will give you more room while siezing the shroud.

PS thank you all for your kind comments.

neptune, why not tool a bunch of the up and sell them in the "vendor" area of MSW. anything to raise more money for a machine toy can't be bad.
