Hi shipmates. Although I have suggest already a method making baskets for fishing boats I have to confess that the result was not what I wanted. I recommended baskets made from line because at that time I didn’t find the material to have baskets from real reed at that size…After some experiments I found a kind of real reed and see my new suggestion improving ( I think ) the previous one.
First you have to make a walk in a park or in countryside and find the plant or a similar one to this, as on photo. The specific one we can find it in Summer time and usually dry. We want it dry for that colour of reed.

When you find something close to this plant (and dry) pick up some of them with the same tiny diameter.. and when you get back put them in water for at least one hour. Then as they are wet start make your basket as I have explained. See photo

When you get close to the high of the basket you want stop and with a line (in one piece no waxed) with brown colour make the final two rounds leaving spare line for two handles.

Wait enough until the reed dry and then apply on the inner side of the basket a clue. Waiting the clue to dry make a collie with the same brown line and in the same diameter.
Finish the basket as I have explained.

This result (regardless my skill) shows up something closer to the real baskets

G'Day again Thanasis,

When you remove the basket from the jig what keeps the straw in place when it is removed from the nails of the jig.

Also how would the straw strands from a straw broom go as the weaving material.

Hi Dirk. Answering your questions:
1.When apply a clue on the inner side of the basket.. in fact you put clue between the rounds of the reed and additional you create a layer over the entire (inner) side of the basket which keeps the rounds of the reed together.I used white carpender's clue.
2.If I understood the question.. yes you can use the straw strands from a straw broom as the weaving material. In fact that is what I did but don’t knowing if straw brooms are fabricated in other countries I suggested that dry plant or something similar from the countryside…
Thank you Dirk because answering your questions some parts of the method have been explained.
