To get the right position for the gunwales I used transparent airbrush masking film and mark the positions with a needle.

Transfer of the pinholes to the cover plate and cutting with a sharp knife.

For the mounting of the cover panels I used double adhesive film.

To make the panels soft and round I use some round wooden tools and much force. The underlayment for this work is a piece of felt.

Next session I will show the painting of the body.

Kind regards
Josef

fuchsjos,

Your framing cards look so professional. You did a good job on it. I also have Tamiya masking tape. I will have to give it a try. It is good to make sure it fits before gluing the planks down. I used to take it for granted that the planks would fit without trying it first. I have learned better now.
Thanks,

Phil

Fuchjos: this build is starting to look good.

I too have this kit to start and build. However my wife has decided that she wants to build it too - so we may share it or fight over it.

I too wondered how you got the thick red card formers for the hull framing. Thanks Phil for asking and getting reply on that. I may try and see if my local printing shop can print for me onto thick card - or else I shall have to resort to buying card and cutting/sticking them onto the card to get going on this.

Am I correct in thinking that you have not made the gun carriages from the card parts in the kit. You made these yourself from wood?

Regards

Chris

Hello Josef,

I am absolutely stunned with the model and you being in Vienna.
Have not had much time recently to follow up, and now I am trying to catch my breath.

Let's stay in touch.

@Phil: I'm working for the convention: Trust is good - but control is better. Laughing
Especially the kits from shipyard one have to see as a basic platform for own ideas and culmination. You need a lot of experiences in papercard modeling to get a good result with Shipyard.
For the use of Tamiya tape: There are little gaps between the panels and I seal them with a small string of white glue. This glue is waterbased and so it isn't to avoid that the edges of the cardboard comes a little up (swelling). Therfore I use the tape to cover this gaps and use a spoon or something else to rub down the small bur.

@Chris: This cardboard is the result of a long seeking action (including some try and errors). Now I use this photo paper: http://www.modulor.de/shop/oxid.php/sid/e2170b3cc3d12a28fc5569232abef04c/cl/details/cnid/DAN/anid/DANA in combination with this one: http://www.modulor.de/shop/oxid.php/sid/e2170b3cc3d12a28fc5569232abef04c/cl/details/cnid/DBD/anid/DBDA/tpl/-/lang/1/listtype/list

The 300g paper is 0,4 mm thick and the 130g paper is 0,2 mm. The thinner paper is no problem to print with the most inkjet printers. With combinations of the dimensions it is easy to come to the needed diameters.

Yes, you're right! The sideparts of the gun carriages are made of wood. But I don't make it myself - I bought a gun kit by company GPM in Poland. They have all three dimensions (12 pd / 24 pd / 36 pd) for the Victory, including a very fine brass barrel.

Kind regards
Josef

The painting for one side (port side) is ready. After making the coloring with airbrush I used dry brushing and washing to reach a smart weathered effect. The colors were used after RAL standard (Yellow - RAL 1017, Red - RAL 3011, Black - RAL 8022). After finishing the enhancement of the decorative battens, I will show you the result at next session (and of course I made the enhancements with paper).

well our good friend and fellow modeller Mr Coyle - was indeed not joking when he said we were in for a treat. This is looking superb. I just hope that my wife and I can make our kit look as good when we get started.

fuchsjos,
Your ship is looking very good.
Did you use a foam filler in the bottom hull or did you use some sort of putty there?
It is hard to tell if the sides of your ship is wood or card. It is so smooth looking.

Phil

@Phil: Thank you, I didn't use a foam filler for the body. After the first planking with thin paper (0,2 mm) the hull was a little bit sinked in between the formers. So I used some putty to get an even and more stable basic for the second planking with thicker cardboard (1 mm).
