Hi mates
Working on my new model “Karavoskaro” (a schooner) I had to build her wheel. Having no carving skill I made an easy one as below.

1. On a piece of hard wood (close to wheel’s thickness) I draw a round of the desire wheel and a second internal as it’s wide. I removed the wood from the internal round (I start drilling a hole) and then I cut off the external one removing a wooden round from the piece of wood.

2. I placed the wheel’s body…on a wooden roll marked with the wheels spokes and I drilled holes (8 of them) in the diameter close to diameter of a toothpick.

3. From a small wooden round I cut off a slice (in the wheel’s thickness) and I made four holes less than the diameter of a toothpick and crosswise. In addition I chose eight (8)toothpicks (as in foto the specific ones) and transformed them (cutting one piece of them) as showing. I cut four of them in the length I wanted (as my wheel’s spokes) and the lasting four a little longer on which I reduced the edges. See fotos.

4. I started with the four reduced toothpicks- placed them crosswise through the wheel’s body and secure them on the central slice.

5. At the end and after putting together all the parts I made my schooner’s wheel good enough for the time I spend.

Thanasis,

Once again you've come up with a great solution to a difficult problem! Those "Greek" toothpicks of yours come in handy for so many ship modeling problems. I wish they were available here.

Thansis,

Thanks for the great tip. I have made pictures of your construction for future reference.

And Scott, I found these toothpicks at Cracker Barrel. I think I paid $ 5.00 for them.

Thanks Ryland! Janesville isn't very big so we don't have any specialty grocery stores but we do have a Cracker Barrel Wink
