  1. USS Constitution - Revell - 1:96 Updated

USS Constitution - Plastic Kit from Revell - 1:96 Scale. This was the first model ship I built for my father as he was never able to complete his. This ship ignited my interest in model ship building as I saw it sitting on my dad's work table all my life growing up. I wasn't sure if I would enjoy the challenge presented by model ships but after completing it I have not been able to stop.

My rendition of the frame displayed build of the Fair American. One objective I enjoyed completing was "painting with wood" There is no paint on the completed model, all color comes from different varieties of beautiful wood.

  18. USS Peary DD-226 by rcweir - Tehnoart 1:96 Updated

Built from a kit of USS Ward, this is how I believe Peary looked in October, 1941.  That was the last time the ship was in operationally complete condition.

The Maria HF 31 was a fishing Ewer from Hamburg/Finkenwerder. Thats very very close to where I live btw. Build 1880 she operated until 1950. During this period she has undergone several rebuildings, including motorization. The Ship is restored and has it's place in the "Deutsches Museum" in Munich.

  25. The Sea of galilee Boat Updated

The Sea of Galilee Boat also known as the "Jesus Boat" was an ancient fishing boat from the 1st century CE (the time of Jesus Christ), discovered in 1986 on the north-west shore of the Sea of Galilee in Israel. The remains of the boat, 27 feet (8.27 meters) long, 7.5 feet (2.3 meters) wide and with a maximum preserved height of 4.3 feet (1.3 meters), first appeared during a drought, when the waters of the Sea (actually a great fresh-water lake) receded. There is no evidence connecting the boat to Jesus or his disciples.

The Sea of Galilee Boat is historically important to Jews as an example of the type of boat used by their ancestors in the 1st century for both fishing and transportation across the lake. Previously only references made by Roman authors, the Bible and mosaics had provided archeologists insight into the construction of these types of vessels. The boat is also important to Christians because this was the sort of boat used by Jesus and his disciples, several of whom were fishermen. Boats such as this played a large role in Jesus' life and ministry, and are mentioned 50 times in the Gospels, though there is no evidence connecting the Sea of Galilee Boat itself to Jesus or his disciples.

About the NRG

If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.

The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.

The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
