Hi Biber,

beautiful built vintage submarine......

Very nice the cutaway views

is it authentically documented that this principle of raming an explosive Container into the underwater Planks of an ememy ship by this sub ever worked out  without sacrificing the own ship, the way the designer made it for, or was it only "wish thinking" ?, suicide squad ?

Hi Nils,

Thanks for your comment and question. As you can see at the movie and some pictures, submarine hooks container into the underwater planks of an enemy ship and then winds off the container rope to get a quite long distance between the submarine and target ship. Only after that the submarine commander pulls on the rope to allows the container explosion. Maybe, it's not so clear from the movie because it's difficult to show the long distance but it actually worked as I discribed. Actually, the Hunley was on the surface after the attack. They were signalling the shore party about their success. And after that they disappeared for unknown reason. Most probably, they were suddenly run over by one of the many Union boats rushing to assist the Housatonic's crew.

Very cool. I remember reading about the Hunley when I was in the Navy. I always thought that that crew had to be some of the bravest men of the age to try something like that. Your model looks great! I really like the cut away views and details they reveal.
