I opted to build this brick by brick with pieces of wood each row separated by card strips and then "mortar" applied and washed off the brick faces.

Unfortunately I sloped the sides in a bit too much and the pots wouldn't fit thru the top holes as intended, so I had to file them and mount to the undersurface, losing the nice lip appearance. Live and learn - I wasn't going to make that thing twice! It looks OK
