About Me
I`m a shipmodel builder, doing research work mainly in english Naval Architecture of the 17th and 18th Century.
I´m a member of the German guild: "Arbeitskreis historischer Schiffbau e.V." and also in the Editor`s team of our quarterly journal: "Das Logbuch".
At the moment I`m writing on a book about the work of the "Ropers" art of manufacting the Rigging for ships, called: "From Hemp to Rope".
My next project will be a 1:32 scale model of the Ship Sloop "Fly" 1776, starbord side fully in original frames, portside planked and fitted.
I also constructed a very silent but fast model ropery, making 4,500 turns per minute at the drilling hooks and about 1.500 tpm at the laying hook which has a reduction gear for the needed strength, when laying four-stranded cables up to 6 mm in diameter. With this model ropery, I`m able to produce every kind of ropes, from 0,10 to about 6 mm in diameter, slack or hard layed.
