  1. The directions next call for the skinning of the central wing section, but I decided to slightly deviate from the suggested sequence. By assembling the entire wing skeleton first, I hope to produce some better seams between the center skins and outer wing skins.
  2. Have you tried using the forum's search feature? There are currently 21 topics with 'Royal Louis' in the title, mostly build logs, including the log you started in 2016. There was also the topic in which you posted the same question last Wednesday, but I've deleted that topic because it was posted in the wrong area.
  3. The first part of the 'guts' are added. The rest is all landing gear parts and will be added later.
  4. And now we commence with the wing, starting with the skeleton of the center section. Next we start on the landing gear bays, which are NOT simple -- gotta pump myself up for that sequence! 😯
  5. Very interesting! The AL version has a very pronounced tumblehome -- makes me wonder whether the two kits are based on roughly the same section of hull?
  6. Hi, @Bertilon! Since you have made a start on your model, I have split off a new topic for you in the build logs section. Enjoy your project!
  7. The worst wooden kit I ever built was Corel's Flying Fish. It has been observed in the past by more than one MSW member that Corel kits seem to follow the rule of "you get what you pay for." Builders rave about their high-end kits, but their cheaper offerings have been fraught with problems. On the bright side, think about how much character you're building!
  8. Welcome aboard, Wayne, and best of luck on your project!
  9. The empennage is complete. The one-piece stabilizer fillets were a real booger!
  10. Hmm -- we don't have an emoji for "I can't answer that one for you."
  11. Hi! I hope you have finally had a chance to settle in for good and make some progress on your model?
  12. Hi, Thomas. I hope life has allowed you some time to get back to this beautiful project?
  13. David, since your topic is more or less morphing into a build log, I have formatted your title accordingly and moved it into the proper area. Good luck with your project!
  14. Wow! Hot off the presses and already well into the build! Based on your previous efforts, I have no doubt you will make a fine model out of this. Enjoy!
  15. We live in a Golden Age of beginner-level wood kits. It's a great idea to start with one of the many simple rowed craft or small sailing boats that are available. One of the best lines was produced by Midwest Products -- you can still find the original kits on eBay. The Midwest Products boats are now made by Model Shipways here in the States and are available from Model Expo (ME). ME also makes a series of progressively more challenging beginner kits called the Shipwright Series. In the UK, Vanguard Models makes a line of small fishing vessels specifically designed with beginners in mind. To get a good overview of the process of building a wooden model, check out the classic book on the subject Ship Modeling Simplified by Frank Mastini -- it's easy to find, inexpensive, and a good read.
