  1. hi all I am sure I have seen a table somewhere that gives an idea of deck plank length against model scale I have been searching for it but can't find it maybe it was in the earlier site I am building a 1/75 Vasa any ideas as to the plank length would be helpful I am planking the deck rather than the printed deck supplied Thanks Andy
  2. i agree with the Proxxon I use it to turn all my spars ideal tool to start out with Andy
  3. Hi Tom I have the same problem a Billings kit and Coral fittings that was my thought how to paint the "brass" fittings I even soaked them in paint stripper to see if I could get rid of the coating but it didn't touch it Andy
  4. Hi sorry I haven't posted for a while but as I have said before I am a model builder not a photographer ! I have been finishing the deck fittings and the rigging The deck houses were built up as per the plan re enforcing the corners with some scrap I never like to see bare plywood so I cut off the overhang and made a frame from some walnut from the scrap box. the doors were made up and painted and dummy hinges fitted not really much rigging to do so a couple of pictures cover most things The anchors were missing so they will have to wait until I can find some of the right size next project ????
  5. Hi I am just starting my build a bit of an odd one a billings kit but coral fittings What paint did you use to paint the gilded items they seem very shiny to let the paint stick.I did think of stripping them but either my paint stripper is old or they can't be taken back to the base metal Thanks Andy
  6. Thanks for the information I think I will stick to the single plank for the hull But fit a false ply deck and plank with somethingnot sure what though
  7. Hi I am enjoying your build great work Did you use the billings supplied deck or just plank with timber ? Did you double plank or just stain the 1st planking ? I am just starting my build any ideas would be appreciated Andy
  8. I decided to paint inner bulwarks probably not strictly correct but as I have said before I am no a "rivet counter" I make my models for the enjoyment of the hobby and to make something that is pleasing to look at Masts were tapered on my Proxxon lathe I like their products this small lathe is ideal for mast and spar making Its amazing how much better a model looks with masts fitted even if its a temp dry fit Andy
  9. 1st planking and 2nd planking both finished but I didn't read the instructions correctly so planked all of the hull in walnut the top 4 planks should have been in the lighter colour Deck and inner bulwarks have all been planked in the lighter timber I am not sure what it is but it seems impossible to sand it clean so I decided to leave it slightly dirty and say it adds character to the deck
  10. Hi all I am still trying to work out my next major project I still want to build a POF model rather than the usual POB kits that I buy. I was browsing through E bay and found a part built Swift kit and thought it would make a good quick filer I put a £50 bid in it and won it for £45 !! bargain The kit arrived safely but the previous builder had made a bit of a mess the main bulkhead was bent the mast supports were in the wrong place but nothing ventured nothing gained so I broke the backbone in two added more supports and glued back together Next job was the deck this has quite a camber to it so loads of string and clamping methods were needed to get it to sit on the bulkheads correctly The 1st planking was so poor in quality I think it was just pine that it broke at the slightest bend so that made some nice paint stirrers ! and I used some pieces of walnut I had in stock I know it seems a shame to use it and then cover it up but when needs must
  11. Thanks Mike I will take a look at them I am also looking at Model Shipways Syren but the $100 post charge puts me off I am hoping Chuck will eventually get his HMS Winchelsea kit up and running Andy
  12. Yes Mike I like caldercraft I have already finished Agamemnon and mars I fancy an admarlry style plank on frame but kits seen to be non existent here in the UK And as I said being a backroom builder with neighbors all the noise scratch build might causeproblems Andy Griffith
  13. Thanks for the encouragement I am not sure about the next project Mike I fancy a pof model but not sure if I have the talent to do it justice I also am a back room modeler so all the sanding and sawing wouldn't go down well with the neighbors Any ideas ??
  14. ITS FINISHED sorry I haven't been posting I bet you all thought another half built model gathering dust I much prefer to build rather than photograph Hope you like any comments good or bad would be great Andy
  15. Thanks for the information Jeff Maybe there's a business opportunity for someone to start producing Bob's kits again ?
  16. thanks for the information blue jacket Unfortunately they seem to be another U.S. company that don't reply to my e mail Has anyone had dealings with the royal shipyard plymouth ? They list several kits but don't seem to reply either Is it just me :’-(
  17. Hi Thanks for all your suggestions I have tried the lumberyard and Plymouthships but neither have replied yet maybe they are both having a bad day Scroll saw is a good idea for cutting out the frames maybe I shall have to invest in one I already have proxxon bench saw and band saw so an e mail to Germany seems best way to go
  18. Hi having built several plank on bulkhead kits I would now like to build a plank on frame kit something along the lines of hms victory navyboard style my problem is I don't have any method to mill or cut out the parts I live in a flat and the noise wouldn't be very friendly to others living in the block does anyone know of a kit manufacturer hopefully in the uk that could help Thanks Andy
  19. Just a thought When I asked Jotika why their Nelson series were all in 1/64 but victory was 1/72 they said they had plans to do a 1/64 kit but the carriers said it would be too heavy to economically send, hence the 1/72 kit I wonder if anyone at Amati has thought of this?
  20. a few more pictures I am still not sure weather to paint the hull white as per instructions but it seems a waste to cover all the planking
  21. thanks for the comments Patrick I know how helpful all can be on the site I have found this and the mark1 version to be of great help I just hope that my work can do justice to the excellent models shown
  22. Hi hope I am doing this correctly I have built several models but this is my first attempt at a build log ] I hope you like my work any criticism will be welcome Andy
