Hi Jeff, Many thanks for your visit. I'm seriously thinking about building the Nina next but I have to wait until Jerry's eye problem is resolved. I don't dare to do anything on my own yet. Maybe I'll go solo after the next one. We're ordering a display case today for Bounty so other than some touch ups, I guess we're finished with her. Take care, Charlene

Good morning, Jeff.. Just thought I'd catch a glimpse of your site. Nice job on the Connie..Couldn't help but notice the square blocks compared to the round ones, the only kind I've ever seen before. The gun port lids reminds me of Jerry's Victory. Good work and I'm anxious to see how your build progresses. regards, Charlene

Hi Everyone.. Today is the day that Jerry said he was going to measure the model for a display case. I guess that means something...We are actually finished with our HMS Bounty except for some detail touching up, straightening out some rat lines, and deciding what to do with the sail sheet blocks that hang empty on most of the yards. I feel very good for what we have accomplished considering the physical problems we have had. Jerry's already talking about another build for him and that's a good sign that he feels optimistic about his upcoming surgery. I think I'm going to build the Nina as I fell in love with the little ship when we went aboard her replica in Naples a few weeks ago. I think Jerry is going to find something riggingless..(Yeah, I know that's not a word) .Here are some new photos as Bounty is right now and perhaps we'll have some more a little later on. It's been hectic and quite an experience for me but I definitely have the bug and wish to continue with this wonderful hobby. So, until a little later on... Charlene

Hi Lawrence.. Lawrence, you are absolutely correct. Here is a picture of the flag locker on our Bounty which Jerry thought was a rudder house. Thanks for pointing out that it is a flag locker as now we can see the compartments which we hadn't noticed before. And many thanks for your good wished regarding Jerry's eye problem. Hi Brian, Thank you so much for your thoughts regarding Jerry's situation. When he had cataract surgery he was so pleased at the outcome; those were very good days. He couldn't get over how bright everything was and how vivid the colors around him were. Now we hope the medical procedures will help to preserve the sight he has left in his right eye. I can't imagine how it would be if he wasn't complaining about some problem when working on a ship model. His condition is definitely known and the procedure has proven successful more than not so we're keeping our fingers crossed. Charlene

Hi Lawrence, I asked Jerry about a flag locker on the HMS Bounty's deck and he said that he doesn't recall seeing any in McKay's book or in the plans and directions. He said to tell you that you must be thinking that you're still building the Victory. Where did you see such a locker? In any event, I guess all of these ships must have someplace where they carried their signal flags and pennants. The bad news is that Jerry will require surgery on his eyes and the first procedure is now scheduled for June 2nd. In the meantime he has been helping me finish hanging the hanks (coils) and we're almost completed. Then of course we'll tackle the flags. Here are some more pictures of the hanks. Charlene

Hello Lawrence... Thank you for your good wishes. I'll be seeing a different specialist in the morning regarding my eyes and hope he'll have a solution for me. It's been more than 6 weeks now and I'm still hurting. The four main cannons on my plans measure 35mm but the actual cannons sent in the kit are 40mm. There are also 10 calverin cannons that mount in various places around the deck on posts. These cannons or calverins as they are referred to are 32mm in length. The plans and the parts sent are different but that's par for the course with this Amati kit. I have said it before and I'll say it again, The Amati kit is by far the worst kit I have ever built. There have been missing parts and parts that different in size from the plans and the quality sucks. Never again will I buy a kit by this manufacturer. I feel bad for Charlene as she has taken the brunt of it since it's her first build and she has run into this situation. Hi Popeye.. Good to hear from you again. Jerry seems to agree with you and will probably run some of the sail-sheet rigging and leave them tied up some way. He's still not up to building as his eyes are still giving him problems. He's really going through a lot of discomfort which hopefully one of his doctors will help fix one of these days. He sees another specialist this Friday. My friend was over today to take some pictures of Bounty but they didn't come out too good so I'm just posting a couple of ones I took.. Charlene

Hi again, Today we placed the calverin guns on their swivel mounts which leaves us with coils and flags to finish this Bounty. As mentioned above Jerry is still thinking about hanging something on the sail lift lines but hasn't come up with anything yet. So, I will now start planning my next build and Jerry, hopefully, will think about something he wants to build. Well, it looks like we're getting down to the "nitty gritty's." Jerry has been feeling a lot better although he still has a lttle eye problem in his left eye. He was able to show me how to mount the rudder chains and transom lanterns and so we have accomplished that today. The rigging is just about finished also since there is no sail rigging to do. There are several blocks hanging from most of the yards which are for sail reefing, etc. I thought we should just let them hang since no sail have been hoisted but Jerry thinks we should do something with them, perhaps hanging the lines anyway. I think with his physical condition we should probably tweak the painting, tighten some stays, and of course there are many coils (hanks) to hang. But all in all we're getting close to the finish line. I hope to have some better pictures in the middle of next week as a friend of mine who is a professional photographer will be coming here for a visit and I'm going to try and sweet talk him into taking some decent pictures. Good morning, Brian, You are very kind to compliment our work and I for one really appreciate it. I used a black marking pen to line the floor planking strips. I marked one side and one edge of each plank and the results turned out to be good. About the hanks of line (coils), we have been wondering how to fit them on the pins and your suggestion to use just two coils of line probably is the way to go. Thanks for the advice. So now it's on to more rigging which seems to be getting cluttered. Take care, Charlene

Hi Popeye, Hope you are well. Jerry keeps a stock of different size blocks and dead-eyes and fortunately he had several of the two hole blocks called for in the Bounty build. Amati short fills almost all of their blocks and if it weren't for the extras Jerry previously bought we'd be in trouble. Jerry said to thank you for your good wished regarding his eyes; he sees an allergist tomorrow as his condition has persisted. In spite of the circumstances he is still spending time with the Bounty as I keep struggling along. Hope you have a great day, Charlene
