  1. USS Constitution - Revell - 1:96

    USS Constitution - Plastic Kit from Revell - 1:96 Scale. This was the first model ship I built for my father as he was never able to complete his. This ship ignited my interest in model ship building as I saw it sitting on my dad's work table all my life growing up. I wasn't sure if I would enjoy the challenge presented by model ships but after completing it I have not been able to stop.

  2. La Couronne - Corel - 1:100

    La Couronne, French 3rd Rate Ship of the Line circa 1637. Built mostly to the kit with some changes in the rigging and cosmetic design based on research, suggestions and other builds of her.

  3. Le Soleil Royal 1:77 Sergal by EJL

    This is a kit bashed version of the Sergal model. I built the interiors for the cabins, with LED lighting, and also took my first foray into ornamental carving, replacing all of the cast pieces provided in the kit with my own wood carved pieces. I added the sails and associated rigging as well as many other fittings and furniture that were either not supplied, or I chose to replace.

About the NRG

If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.

The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.

The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
