  1. Thanks to all for the welcome and for confirming my thoughts on what to start with. MTaylor, I am indeed a former Marine grunt and may I infer from your use of the word 'former' you are also?
  2. Greetings All, My name is Gary Steffen, I have been a model builder for a number of years. Having always been fascinated by 19th and 19th century ships I decided to start building a few. Since a am new to this genre of model building I decided to start with The Scottish Maid, then on second thought I considered that I might want to start on something a bit easier, even though it is an entry level kit. I settled on the Model Shipways 18th Century Longboat, which seems fairly basic. Anyway looking forward to expert advise and counsel. Cheers...
  3. Hi Tim, I checked your build log because I too am new to building model wood ships. I also chose the Scottish Maid for the same reasons as you, however, I have not yet started...I'm reading a couple books on the how to first. Additionally I am building up the courage to start as I would like to do as well as you have. Your build looks very nice to my newbie eye. I'll check back on your progress and dive in soon! Cheers, Gary
