    I just got this 1:48 set of Gold Miners from Pegasus to show scale on my 1:48 Armed Viriginia Sloop. It was cheap (~$10 delivered via Amazon) and I think that I can repurpose a couple of the poses where he's holding a shovel handle to be grabbing a line. They are obviously not officers but could easily be a coastal sailor of the period, I think. They are also available in 1:72. http://www.plasticsoldierreview.com/Review.aspx?id=1727

    What about at the false keel / bulkhead junctions? I've read arguments both for and against cleaning the char but it all seems down to individual preference. I wonder if the material makes a difference (wood v. MDF)?

    One thing I forgot to mention: Make sure that the paper is WHITE. It is not colorfast and if you use a color, then spray it with water you will soon have a stained ship's boat. Voice of experience. Google 'tarps for scale models' or similar and you'll find videos of people demonstrating the technique. It's used widely in armor modeling.

    One thing you might want to try is the tissue paper used for stuffing gift bags (not the Kleenex kind). Place a square over your boat as you did with the handkerchief, spritz it lightly with water to dampen it and then drape it as desired. You can paint on a thinned mixture of white glue and water to help it keep its shape as it dries. When try remove and paint. I think you'll find the results much more 'to scale' than the heavy texture on the cloth or the rigidity of the duct tape.

    This is looking very nice. A question, though: What is the orange / red thing hanging off the line at the bow in the first picture of your last post? A weight you're using to keep the lines organized? Thanks.
