    Sound Off, Military & Veterans!

About to clock up 36 years with the Royal Australian Air Force. Joined as an apprentice electrician as a 16 year old and still enjoying the challenge.
  2. The Canberra Model Shipwright Society will be holding it's annual model ship exhibition on 21-22 September 2013 at the Belconnen Arts Centre in Canberra, ACT, Australia.. This years expo has been funded by a grant from the ACT government as part of the Canberra centenary celebrations. This has allowed the hire of a great venue in the heart of a major commercial centre. The society is anticipating in the region of 150 ship models to be on display for the weekend. Along with the display inside, RC ship models will be running on the lake outside. Anyone interested in coming along, either just for a look or to display a model, would be more than welcome. More details can be found on the CMSS web site: http://www.canberramodelshipwrights.org.au/index.php?page=expo-2013 Steve B.
  3. Hi John There are a few ship modelling clubs around depending on your specific interest. I am in Canberra, well Queanbeyan really, and am a member of three ship modelling clubs with different themes. They are: Canberra Model shipwrights Society - Mainly static wooden ships. http://www.canberramodelshipwrights.org.au/ ACT Model Boat Club - mainly radio controlled ship models - no web site Task Force 72 - mainly 72nd scale warships - an Australia wide club with fleet bases in each major city. http://www.taskforce72.org/ In Sydney there are also a few clubs that I know of. They are: Sydney Model Ship Builders Club Inc. No web site but a face book page with contact details. https://www.facebook.com/SMSC.inc?sk=wall Sydney Maritime Modellers Club. http://smmc.org.au/Home.php Hubertus Model Boat Club. https://sites.google.com/site/hubertusmbc/home There are also clubs in the St George area and at Narrabeen but I am unsure of their correct names or details. Both cater for mainly RC models as far as I know. I Hope that this helps. Steve

About the NRG

If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.

The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model shipcraft.

The Nautical Research Guild puts on ship modeling seminars, yearly conferences, and juried competitions. We publish books on ship modeling techniques as well as our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, whose pages are full of articles by master ship modelers who show you how they build those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you what details to build.
