  1. Some time ago I built a model of a huges 500 helicopter using one of the '' leggs egg'' that my wife's nylons came in. Used some model gate for the skits and an old peice from a broken fishing rod for the tail strut. my nephew was small at the time and talked me out of it!!
  2. I made a couple from sewing machine needles. I used a dremel cut off wheel and worked it by hand to keep the needle cool so not to change the temper. I shaped the cut off wheel with the small diamond stick and made u shaped gouges. The needle already has the groove in it for the thread so it didn't take much to form it. They held up better than the hypodermic needles did. Doug J
  3. I use alot of flex cut carving tools and they hold an edge really well. They have what's called a carving jack that has a couple different tools to go with the blades. I've been eyeing it up for a while now,but so far the admaral won't give me an advance on my allowance.
  4. I had a micro lux like the one at micromark.......totally worthless. I'm on my second royobi and love it. The only reason for buying the second saw was so I can use pinless blades.Like the other's have said, the table insert is the only problem.I made one out of some delrin I had reducing the blade clearence and haven't had a problem since. 5. Matt, Just found your thread, and it's an awesome build!! In truth you have inspired me to give mini's a try.Now all thats left is to pick a ship, and try my best to keep from irritating my wife while building it. Doug Jones
  6. Peter, That's a sweet looking boat you've built !! I especially like the rubbing strakes,it really sets things off. Doug J
  7. I have used spiral blades as well with good results. The only problem I had is finding them in very small diameter. They take a little bit of getting used to,cutting in all directions, but they are exellent blades.Hope this helps. Doug Jones
  8. Hi Paul, I just happened across your log today, and I'm really glad that you decided to re-post. Some of the reason I enjoy it is your use of multi-media,which I do alot of myself. To date my best build is a huges 500 helicopter with a leggs egg from the stockings! Glad you are Back, Doug J
  9. I use crown tooth blades, that cut both ways, and get a good finish unless I push it through too fast. With the little 2/0 blades you can get nice square 90 degree corners.I'm using olson blades that I get from rocklers and they are great for durability as well.Another place to look is Scroller. Hope it Helps, Doug Jones
