  1. Well, decals are on but only on the fuselage. I'm still flipping the coin about the sponsons. Now for the question... what do I put on the decal to kill the shine and protect it? I have some ModelMaster Flat Clear but it seems to dry a bit milky in the testing. I'm brushing still.
  2. It's a deep rabbit hole for sure. I decided some time ago to read as many articles as I could.... I'm not third of the way through that site. But, it keeps me off the streets and out of trouble.
  3. Welcome to MSW, Borden. If you'll go to our database, here: http://modelshipworldforum.com/ship-modeling-articles-and-downloads.php there's a topic about tools and materials. When you're ready, feel free to start a build log as it's the best way to make friends and get help.
  4. Lou, use the OD. The problem is, that most of these kits and aftermarket products don't reflect the Vietnam colors but the Desert Wars' colors. The markings are also different. For example, on the -53 stateside, we had full lettering "MARINES", the Star and Bars, plane number, call sign which was two letters for the Squadron and then numbers for the bird. In "Nam".... just "MARINES" on the side but I did find one photo that showed two with the Star and Bars. The gives justification for that. I also found that lettering is different colors also. I'm using the faded black.
  5. Both guns are in, Lou. I took photos of both sides (inside and out) and them picked the best ones. The OD is Model Master FS 34102. I have since found out (too late now) that proper one is FS 16440. Don't ask me what the difference is... I went by the MK 1 Mod1 eyeball at the hobby shop.
  6. Here's an article I read a few days ago (I'm a history buff, but I digress) https://warfarehistorynetwork.com/2017/03/14/engineering-excellence-political-dysfunction-mercedes-benz-in-wwii/
  7. Looks great, Jack. As for the lights... don't tell anyone you didn't use them all. If I remember right, the two down low were for fog. Then two for "low beams" and two more for the equivalent of "high beams".
  8. OC, I won't go into Tiny Hands..... Well... I got the guns done and installed. I tried (with limited success) to match the mount to what we really had. It was steel tube that fit into two mounts and held in place with pins (removable). On top of that was another bit of pipe. The gun had a mount on it similar too what the grunts, tanks, B-s from WWII had. You could lift the gun up and carry it off. No ammo boxes or any real detail as this was fiddly enough for me. I'm currently mounting the windows, interior and waiting for the glue to dry. Sorry about the pictures being a bit blurry... extreme zoom and possibly a bit too much coffee. When I'm finished with this build, I'm going back to wooden ships.... not so fiddly.
  9. Yeah, there's a difference in kit manufacturer's products. It was happening way back when as kits doing the model cars. Every manufacturer had their own ideas on how the models should look and what was important and and what wasn't. The more things change, the less they really do.
  10. Keith, Get a thin layer of foam (maybe packaging type) and lay in on the mill bed when changing bits. I started doing it because they'd hit the bed and run off into space. Now they stay on the bed.
  11. We do have a list of pirate companies (see below) who's kits are banned from MSW. I hope this might help you get the word out about them.
  12. John, Why not open a build log? That way, we can follow along and see what you're doing.
  13. Modeller_masa, I can't like your post enough.
  14. I think the wooden space ships/craft/things should go in the "non-ship" area as here at MSW, ships are normally those the only float above or below the ocean surface. With that in mind, flying boats should go there also ("non-ship").
  15. You're a better man than I, Gunga Din... Out of 6 .50 cal.s, I have 2. They ended up looking better than the other 4. Once they dry I'll up date my log. I think part of problem, Lou, is that we've lost our touch or maybe it's just our confidence. Haven't done this stuff in decades and we're beating ourselves up because "it didn't used to be this hard". Personally, I'll be glad to go back to wood at a lot larger scale so I can actually see what I'm doing. Hmm.... hang on... "maybe it's just our eyes?" he says reaching for a good excuse.
  16. Trying to build a flying Mosi? I shudder think of what that entails. Like where would you find two engines for it? That sounds like a massive project.
