About Me

Hello everyone,

My name is Daniel. I am presently serving in the RCN and hold a commission at the rank of Lieutenant (Navy). I was educated at the Marine Institute in Newfoundland and earned a diploma of Nautical Science. Upon graduating, I immediately shipped off to British Columbia and trained to be a naval officer. I finished my basic naval officer training courses and was posted to our now decommissioned East coast tanker HMCS PRESERVER. Since then I have been attached to both Iroquois class destroyers and several Halifax class frigates. In 2010 I "went boats" and earned a bachelor's degree in Maritime Studies in October 2012 and my submarine dolphins in the spring of 2013. I have now returned to the "Skimmer fleet". We'll see how that plays out now that I've been to the dark side. In my personal life, I'm divorced from my first wife. My eldest son lives with his mother. I spend as much time as I can building at a 1:1 scale. I have built an 18 foot Redbird canoe and am now working on a 13 foot sail and oar Catspaw dinghy. The hope is to one day build one of Murray Peterson's Coaster type Schooners. My 1:1 builds are posted to the Woodenboat forum for those interested in my 1:1 scale work.  I have limited scale building having built a spanish galleon as a young boy (pre-teen most likely) a USS Constitution and a CuttySark in small scale as well as Revell's 1:96 Cutty Sark.  I built her once as a teen and then started again as an adult. I've not yet rigged the second one. I'd like to progress to a wooden Cutty Sark (1:64 scale is attractive to me for all ship models moving forward) at some point. I'm presently working on rigging my second 1:96 Cutty Sark to replace the one I built as a teenager that has been damaged in moves and admittedly wasn't very well done as I had no patience. Now I can spend a bit more time working on it.
