I also really like the Pegasus. I've been eye balling that kit as well. Maybe at some point in the future I may consider purchasing it.

Hello Everyone, I wouldn't say I am a new member, but it's been more then 10 years since I last built a model. I truly missed the joys and challenges of my creative side of my brain. I have a stash of around 13 kits that are just waiting for me. I will soon start my first build log which I think is going to be the King of Mississippi from Artesania Latina. Stay tuned. Mrjuan or JB as my friends call me.

Its great to have found someone else working on the REL from scientific. I bought this kit from someone that ever started it. Wondering if you have any updates? JB

Hi Mike, I too have the Phantom currently shelved along with other more advanced kits like the MS Fair American and the 18th Century Longboat. My approach is to start off simple while building up my skill level. I have started out with the Midwest boats because I found them to be a great set of kits to learn from. In fact, I am close to completing the Maine Peapod and I have found it to be enjoyable to work with. As Alde has mentioned, the only tricky part is the planking around the bilge. But everything after that is straightforward. JB

Hello, I am considering purchasing an airbrush for painting those larger scale hulls. Currently I only use acrylic paints and prefer them due to the fumes and overall clean up. My question is - is there a particular brand of airbrush that works best with acrylics? Or should I even be considering purchasing an airbrush at all? Thanks, JB

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
