  1. A delayed birthday gift to the love of my life. Her birthday was in February. This is a non-glue kit from Ugear and it's the second I built. I truly enjoy the snap together. The unit got a coat of Wipe-on-poly.
  2. Phil, I have just read through your five-page posting. And I certainly learned a lot. And I am going to use the idea going from a square to create my mast. The old dowels are not straight anyway. Many thanks for the tips and ideas of yours as I will use them when going back to my 40 year old Constructo 1851 America (which is still not done)🤔.
  3. A late reply to this topic, but I have found Vallejo carrying all sorts of various "metal" paint. Got myself a "exhaust manifold" paint from them recently. A quick search didn't yield in any galvanised steel paint.
  4. Chuck, you do deserve to catch with life and health. Your Admiral (Wife/Lady) is a wise one. I do enjoying making my own rope using your tool. This way I can experiment and make more when needed at the moment. Blocks is another story, that is what I will be back for later on.
  5. I have a similar unit putting out 1500 watts. And yes it will melt plastic, char wood if not being careful. Make metal extremely hot to touch afterwards after heating, learned by lesson!
  6. Just an hour and half drive down the I-5 a warm welcome to MSW!
  7. The project was finished some years ago and delivered to a Maritime school in Astoria. I was part of this project.
  8. Happy Birthday - Grattis på din speciella dag! Your progress is outstanding and beautiful. What made you to choose birch?
  9. James, that is very nice job you got done there. My best and Happiest Holiday wishes to you and wife.
  10. I have been dry heating my planks, with an heat gun. Don't put your fingers in front of the nozzle!
  11. During the last hour online, I have found out that several of my accounts (passwords) has been compromised. This doesn't only include my account at MSW but many others as well. Please don't reply to Any new "FRIEND REQUEST" or weird answers!
  12. I did use West System epoxy. And I very certain that's not the problem. The hull doesn't show any cracks. Am more convinced that is where hatches are and the vaselin in the rudder stock was old and not holding water out.
  13. I couldn't find where the leakage were. I can imagine due to the somewhat rough water the hatches were not sealing properly and I haven't changed the petroleum vaseline for the rudderstock since 2012. Reason I am re-doing the deck is that many of the planks didn't adhere to the subdeck, resulting with water getting under and lifting the planks. I did find out on various wood sites that varnishing the subdeck prior epoxying down the planks will result with a better sticking. This is something I am make a trial of before planking the deck again. The deck is now clean, have only a few areas there to touch up. Got new sails as well.
  14. Welcome Phil, I am looking forward seeing your build log.
