  1. Fast forward three years and I bought a kit of my favourite battleship. I also noticed there were eight or so other ships to build and resolved to get them too. Also got much better tools. Mandrels are very important for curved part bending. I also set up a workspace which will move to the garage this weekend with the purchase of a workbench since my new favourite scale for card models is 1:200 and they are huge.
  2. Hello fellow modelers, I have been working on this ship for quite a while and honestly I had been planning to have it long finished by now, but frustration, error and accident all threw wrenches into my schedule so I am as of yet not finished. And since it will require work to finish it up and seeing that I have very few free hours these months I thought it best to post and ask for a bit of advice. I have employed post-shading for the first time and enhanced it with some weathering Enamels from AK interactive, now honestly I feel it has potential but also it hasn't worked out, maybe some of you can give some pointers on how to improve the results? edit: the ship is not finished, decals varnish and rigging must be added and weathering and paintwork need touchups. I will address this in upcoming updates. EDIT2: Some people pointed out to me that I hadn't included any closeups, So I hereby upload some of these too. Here are the pictures
  3. Finally started on this big plastic tub. Besides the invisible PE from Tamiya - bring x-ray goggles - I've got both the Pontos detail up set advanced , and the FlyHawk. The latter is quite impressive. No pictures from the Pontos PE. I forgot to take pictures, and on top of that I just dropped my coolpix on the ground, lens first. It seems I might just as well buy a a new one, as repairs will cost me about the same The Flyhawk had the Nagato booklet, but they sent me a replacement. It seems it is easier to find what parts go where with the proper booklet Sister ship is built by Greg IJN Yamato 1:350 This will be a slow (agonising) build. I've decided to start with all the small parts like guns and turrets to get some dexterity with the PE. This is worse than the stripdown Fokker DR1 I build from Eduard
  4. Greetings all. new to the site and happy to be here. i'm not exactly new to ship building or modelling, but there is always more to learn and i have a million questions! i tend to respond to subjects aesthetically and thus my interests cross many disciplines, eras and subjects. i build air, armour, space, sci fi etc but my real passion lies in the ship yard. i have typically built in 1/700 scale with WW ll IJN as a subject- there's just something about those giant pagoda towers and aircraft carriers- and have a few that i am currently working on. i look forward to sharing some of the process with any who are interested. i have yet to rig a ship and i think that is where a great deal of my focus will be in regards to the questions i have. A new area of interest is in paper model kits. studio time has been extremely limited the last couple of years with work, family and the typical excuses so i wanted to be able to build without the need for fillers, airbrushing etc. something i could literally do at the kitchen table and encourage my 8 year old to participate in. i have recently purchased a couple of JSC 1/400 scale kits and think that i have a reasonable shot at deciphering the instructions- however i see a bunch of questions and assistance rearing their heads in the near future. i have included a couple of photos from recent builds of 1- the Yamashiro, the fuso (nearing completion) and a couple of others showing scale and detail shots. looking forward to sharing my work and hearing back from those interested.
