  1. I'm restoring a pirate ship built in the early 1900. the ship was built by three inmates in a Georga prison. The ship is 5.6 feet long 14 inch wide and 5 ft high. no sail plank on frame construction the ship was quite dirty. I also had a Fiji mermaid to restore. a small ship that needs work and new sails and a raft I removed all the cannon and deck furniture. and rigging wash the ship with soap and water.
  2. I built a bunk bed / log cabin for my daughter when she came into her 5th year. It was a massive undertaking that took a year to build. As my son also approached his 5th year, I asked what kind of bed he would like me to build. His response was a pirate ship bed. While this has no connection to a real ship, a lot of the construction is similar. I know I would have never tackled a project like this if I had not been for the posts of all the fine logs on this site. I hope you find enjoyment in the process. The bed is a twin size single bunk about 4 feet off the ground. I used 4x4 posts and 2x6’s with a 1x4 attached for the primary frame. The dimensions were set around an IKEA bed slat set.
  3. I needed a few weeks to get clean from my addiction to build logs for MSW. But now its time to feed the monkey on my back.. I'm going to make another gift - this time for my nephew Max, also for his Bar Mitzvah. Like many boys his age, Fortnite is a way of life. (If any of you dont know what Fortnite is, then I would surmise that you probably dont have a 9-19 year old human boy in your your life's orbit.) I am choosing the Fortnite Pirate Ship for him. This Ship is rather boxy, with lots of straight lines, and basically no rigging except for shrouds ratlines. Dont ask me how it is sailed, or even how anyone gets up to the crow's nest: It's a computer game ship, and Fortnite knows best! Since it is animated and fictional, it is liberated from certain restraints of physics and reality. This can be a good thing for the SIB builder: fewer rigging lines to tangle, and simpler sails (Yay!!). But it can also get a little fanciful and tricky: I mean, look at the railing, and all the detail on the hull; and the octopus on the bow! This japanes whiskey bottle is just boxy enough!! The plans and hull blank from bass wood. Will add the top of the sterncastle later on!
  4. On a recent visit by my grandkids, my oldest granddaughter, aged nine, looked at my model of The Sovereign of The Seas 1637 and said to me, "will you teach me how to do that?". I said yes and embarked on a search for a suitable model for her age group which could serve as a lesson in crafting and some really special time with her. I located a kit on Ebay which is no longer in production which looked suitable and purchased to for the princely sum of $13. Luckily I was the winning bidder as this suited the purpose perfectly. It consists of 156 laser cut pieces and when complete, assembles into a credible ship model for this age group. Tomorrow, we will travel to my daughter's place and pickup up Isabella to return to our home for a 5 day visit and we will begin the building of this kit. The workplace is ready for her arrival. I hope you will enjoy seeing the progress of this build. Regards, Bill More to follow................
  5. Since my Syren build will be a very long term project I will work on some smaller builds on the side starting with this one. I love hot sauce & save bottles of every different kind I try. This one has a pirate Captain Rodney on the label. I though it would be cool to put a pirate ship in it. The bottle will stand up on this one because the label is staying on. It will be one of my hot sauce bottles & a ship in a bottle at the same time. Because of the labels the ship will only be able to be viewed from 2 sides instead of all the way around. Thought it would be fun to do something a little different in between the steps of my big build. Here are some pics of the bottle, the basic shape of the hull block, the ship on my flimsy jig with bowsprit cut & fitted on & my very sketchy plans.
  6. Went out of town this weekend and picked this small kit up to kill some time. The rigging was a little tricky but this was fun.
