After nearly 8 years of occassional search in various archives and libraries for a digital copy, I have finally been able to locate a PDF version of the subject treatise from about 1685 by Edward Battine. For those interested in the evolution of ship building and design this would be a nice addition to the collection. Battine, Edward. 1685. The Method of Building, Rigging, Apparelling, & Furnishing His Majesties Ships of Warr, According to Their Rates. https://collections.library.yale.edu/catalog/17268860. At 60mb the document is a bit too large for me to upload here. Enjoy!

Hi all, I've received my 2nd hand copy of 'Sailing Drifters by Edgar J. March'. The book itself is in good condition and the images and photographs inside are very clear. Only issue is that the dust cover (originally 25cm x 57cm) has seen better days and I'd like to protect it from further wear and tear. I don't want to glue clear plastic sheets to the dust cover since that is a bit too irreversible. What I'd like to do is source is a thin, flexible, clear plastic 'wallet' that the dust cover sides in to and can then be put back on the book, if such a thing exists. But a sleeve might increase the 'height' of the book where the sleeve's welded edges are, so maybe some non-adhesive film from Amazon might be a better choice? ... https://www.amazon.co.uk/Herma-7388-Book-Cover-Colourless/dp/B0007OEAS2/ref=pd_sbs_229_5/258-7486433-7675807?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B0007OEAS2&pd_rd_r=ace6a896-5de5-44fd-ba89-2c6014916212&pd_rd_w=fa5v2&pd_rd_wg=zn3Ln&pf_rd_p=2304238d-df78-4b25-a9a0-b27dc7bd722e&pf_rd_r=5622YCXDNSKQ70EHNXG3&refRID=5622YCXDNSKQ70EHNXG3&th=1 I'll keep looking, but in the meantime if anyone knows of a good way to protect old dust sleeves please feel free to jump in. Thanks, Richard Edit: Just seen this ... £13 KPC Book Protection CSR03300025U 330mm x 25m Clearsleeve Roll .... https://www.amazon.co.uk/330mm-x-25m-Clearsleeve-Roll/dp/B07KWW2F3G/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=book+dust+jacket+protective+cover&qid=1607537243&refinements=p_76%3A419158031&rnid=419157031&rps=1&sr=8-3 ...I think it may do the trick. It increases the book price by over 1/3rd but I think it would be worth it to extend the life of the dust cover.

I have three books for sale, all by the late Portia Takakjian. All are in good to very good condition, from a smoke-free home. One hardback, two soft covers. Looking online, it seems these books are rather expensive on the used book market. They all seem to go for $35 or more each! I’m offering all three as a bundle for $60, plus shipping from New Hampshire. I estimate that US shipping will be $12-$15 via Priority Mail, or $3 - $5 via Media Mail. I’ll compute an actual cost once I have a buyer. PayPal is preferred, other options can be discussed. I would prefer to sell them as a bundle... if that doesn’t sell, I’ll price them individually later... Questions? -Bill

Hello! I got a book called The Lore Of Ships as a late Christmas gift and it is very interesting and informative. It has plenty of drawings as well as text, and covers a lot of topics. I will probably add on to this review as I read the book, but I will show you a few things about it now. P.S. Sorry for the bad lighting. This next page would be great help for building a cross section. There is so much more in this book and I would greatly recommend this book to anybody wanting to know more about ships or needing a reference on how they are built. This book will be a great help when building. Until next time.

I am not sure this is the right area of MSW or in fact whether the moderators permit this. If I have broken a rule or lodged this under the wrong category mea culpa. I am on the hunt for a book/paper/document written in 1938 by Captain Harold (Harry) Alexander Baldridge titled: Ship models, the collections of Rogers, Sergison and Pepys. I understand it is a slim document some 14 pages in length. I am hoping it contains a listing of the said collections. If anyone has come across this would welcome his/her review of it. If they are happy to part with it even better or know where a copy might be obtained. Thanks Alan

Ahoy; Brief descriptions about 2 well researched books I am reading. First: The True Story of the Mutiny of the Bounty. By Caroline Alexander 2003, ISBN-978-0-14-200469-2 This book is extremely detailed and very well researched. All of the events are well described. Before the voyage. The voyage out to the South Pacific. The mutiny, The Pandora. The return of Bligh to Coupang (Dutch Colony) and the trail of the mutineers. The author takes all this information and creates a seamless narrative. Many of the sources are letters from the sailors to family and diaries that the men kept. In the back of the book it has all the sources for each chapter and select biographies. Best book I have read about the HMS Bounty. Second: The Slave Ship - A Human History. By Marcus Rideker (professor of History) 2007 ISBN-978-0-14-311425-3 Another book that is well researched. The book discusses in detail the life, death and terror of the slave trade. The evolution of it. The so called "Middle Passage" From Africa to either the West Indies or the USA. Insurrections, the lives of sailors, death and diseases on particular slave ships. This book is not just about what happens to the slaves but everything that has to do with it. The people involved and then several last chapters of the abolition of slavery. You read about accounts that are quoted from actual court proceedings. Again well researched with lots of sources quoted for each chapter in the book. Thank you for reading my brief review. Marc

Hi. I have just purchased the book and it is a excellent resource for ship modeling covering all aspects of the ship. Most diagrams are very clear and precise and to scale. Loads of photos and construction methods are shown and discribed in great detail. I am very impressed with the book. Just one more to get then I am happy. Regards Antony. Looking for book -: The Arming & Fitting Of English Ships Of War 1600-1815 - Lavery - Conway.
