  1. Hello all. The disadvantage of living in the Netherlands is that the postal costs for a little package is so enormous ( 15$) that I decided to try to make the blanks myself instead of ordering them at the NRG. At first I printed the paper on 100%. Glued it on a piece of pear of 3,5 mm(~9/64") and started sawing with my litlle proxxon scroll saw. With the help of my trusted loup I was able to make a neat example of a crown. The next very tricky step was to drill the holes with a 0.3 mm (~1/64") drill bit. With the help of some coffee and proper daylight this went well. all the holes went in on the right spot without breaking any drill. Next step will be to mount it on a piece of wood and start carving. The picture is the result of a nice couple of hours.
  2. Good day folks, Well, what can be said other than that it is so sad that all the beautiful input has been lost from this site. There were so many wonderful models and a wealth of information for all to share. Now is the time for us all to rebuild the site together. Today I will just post a photo of the stern of the Sovereign as she sits today while I consider if it is possible to revive the log as it previously was. More to folllow........... Regards, Bill
  3. Hello, while rummaging through a drawer, I found a long-lost tool set -- a linoleum cutter and interchangeable blades for incising lino blocks for contact printing. The price is right at less than $10US, the blade steel is acceptable and they can be re-sharpened , the handle holds the blades securely, and there are a variety of blade shapes available. It works for me. https://www.artistsupplysource.com/product/804451/inovart-lino-cutter/
  4. Classical head figure of Lion. Suitable for sailing ships of 17-18 centuries - England, Holland (last), Spain, Sweden, Denmark and others.

  6. I decided to join in on the carving practice. New skills comes in handy. Picked up two sets of blanks and an NRG membership at the same time. Seemed like a good idea at the time... I have used a cut yardstick as my mounting blocks. Cheap and easy to cut to size. I sanded off most of the printing before gluing on the blanks. For glue I used Weldbond. I tested the glue to verify it would come apart if soaked in alcohol before mounting the blanks. I should have scrapped off the excess glue when I mounted them. some of the glue got on the side of the blanks making it harder to carve. I did use a weight on top of the stack to get a good bond. First results.. not yet finalized. Used a #11 blade knife for most of it. Used a small burr bit by hand for the 4 indentations.
  7. Greetings, I have come across a very interesting product that I am going to use for a project at the Modeller's Workshop. This product, Renshape, a high-density foam, is excellent for scratch-building parts and making molds. However, it comes in large sections and is quite expensive. I am considering buying some of this stuff and cutting it into small pieces so model-builders can use it. Please let me know if you are interested. If there is enough interest, I will start selling the stuff on my website, in small pieces. Best Regards, Rick Shousha Modeller's Workshop Montreal
