Folks, as a reminder, please recall that we have two ways to quote text built into our software. If you want to quote a previous post in its entirety, then use the "quote" button at the lower left corner of that post. Only use this button to quote short posts -- DO NOT use it to quote long posts that have lots of photos in them! Those redundant posts unnecessarily hog bandwidth and are a pain to have to scroll past. If you wish to quote a shorter section of a long post, then click and highlight (left click-and-hold + drag) that portion of text; when you let off the mouse button, a small box will open that says "quote selection". When you click that box, a reply window will open with the quoted text in it. You can repeat this step to quote multiple portions in a single reply. Thanks!

Hi all, All members of MSW are entitled to publish their kit reviews in this area. It isn't just a privilege for staff members. We want a collective voice as to the evaluation of kits, both old and new. However, there are some very simple guidelines that really must be adhered to in order for this section to work as designed. Also, all kits under review must be un-started. This is the only balanced way to get an overall initial feel for the kit. Kit reviews must: Give an initial assessment of the overall package with regards to standard and presentation. All materials must be assessed for quality, including ply and other timbers including strip and dowel, fittings, photo-etch, rigging blocks and cord, sail materials, decals (where supplied), cast materials including cannon and culverins etc, Kit design approach. An overall, personal assessment of the model construction and other interesting and pertinent things you note as you look through the plans, instructions and other drawing materials. Your review must contain clear photographs. Nothing hazy or fuzzy etc. Please do not use this area for starting new topics asking questions about models that aren't under review. Where you do wish to ask a question about a review, then post it as a reply to the review topic, and hopefully those questions can be answered. This area isn't a general model kit discussion place. Please respect the intention of this area and keep other discussion within the other relevant forum areas. Thanks, Jim

please read GALLERY ANNOUNCEMENT
MSW posted a topic in How to use the MSW forum - **NO MODELING CONTENT**
Hey, folks! Have you noticed that we now have 37 pages of gallery albums in kit builds alone? That's awesome!! Unfortunately, the gallery hasn't gotten quite the amount of scrutiny that other areas of the forum have received -- it's sort of like the wild, wild west of MSW (we even found some spam that slipped in there under the radar!). One simple thing that we can all do to make the gallery more user-friendly is to think for a moment about what should go in a gallery album title. In my own experience, whenever I use the search feature for the gallery, I'm looking for the name of a particular ship. So guess where the name of your model should be? That's right -- it needs to go in the title of your gallery album! So please make sure you put it there, thank you! You can add other elements to your title if you wish, but please take note that your album and each of its images are already stamped with your username, so adding that to your title is redundant. Thanks in advance!

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
