  1. I started "kit bashing" my Corel kit, the Baltic Ketch "Scotland" to something I like a little better, and could quite possibly happened. I have never worked in 1:64 scale and to be honest, it is driving me bonkers. Here is a photo progression thus far. I thought I had photos showing how warped the keel and the frame was, but I can't seem to find them. I have since unbashed and am building the kit according to the instructions.
  2. Yes, the time has come for me to temporarily abandon my beloved Midwest Boats and seek a more intermediate ship to build. Alas, the Corel Scotland has been on my list for quite some time and I decided last night to start it up. Looks like all the parts and there and in good shape. Started out with the keel and frame, will be busting out the exacto and the mini chisels tonight. Can't wait to get this ship started!!!
  3. Hi, I'm Duarte from Lisbon, Portugal, and this will by my very first build! Just bought the glues (CA and titebond) and I'm now working out a something to hold the model while it's being worked on.. This will be a slow, long project, But I bet I'll need a lot of help as I've never done anything like this before Thanks in advance!
  4. Hello, After building several plastic models, I decided to move into the wooden boat building. I have done some research on what should be my first model, and considering different factors, I selected the “Scotland Baltic Ketch Yacht 1775" (Corel). I plan to describe all the steps during my build. Sorry if I explain the very basic things, or asking stupid questions. I appreciate any help or suggestions especially for the first steps. Here is the picture of unboxed kit.
  5. Hi everyone. So iv started my first ever build choosing the Scotland Baltic. Id like to say thank you to all the members that welcomed me and helped me out over the last few days with info on getting me set up and what not. So iv done the first stage and its gone fairly well i think. I'v had to file out almost all the hull slots to accommodate the frames but that was to be expected as I'd read from other members build logs. Any way here are a few pictures, feel free to offer and criticism and advice on following stages. Thanks again for all the help. Sorry about the photos they turned when i added them on here and i don't know how to fix it.
  6. Hi everyone, I decided to go with Corel's Scotland kit as my first build. I started it a few days ago, but first, an unboxing picture: Getting the bulkheads to fit into the keel properly took a lot of adjusting with needle files. Once I was satisfied with the alignment, I glued with them in place with glue gun and CA. A long nozzle attachment for my glue gun might be very useful for hard to reach places. Final result looks like this: Can someone who is building this let me know whether part 12 (3x3 Walnut strip) comes already tapered at the front end like in the middle picture on page 7 in the instructions? I did find Walnut strip, but it has flat ends. Also, am I supposed to cut it to fit it on the stern? Thanks!
  7. Hi everyone, I have decided to start my model shipbuilding life with this Baltic ship model. I have no previous experience in any modeling but want to use this ship to work on my building skills ANY AND ALL HELP would be appreciated. I have been reading the blogs on this website and followed a few build logs. I hope all of you will not be bored with some of my basic questions . I will probably look ill informed (which I am) and may not use proper terminology so please help me with that. I will follow this up with my first pictures as I am trying to fit the frames on the keel. Thanks for your help
  8. This is my first model and I am trying to use basic tools (files, glue and sandpaper at this stage) and not spend a bomb on extra's as have a tendency to go bonkers with a new hobby. Reading the manual is "interesting" to say the least and I wish they would print them in plain English! Will upload piccies when I suss out how
