G'day Nils

I'm in a real dilemma, I am holding my breath to see this finished ship, but I don't want it to be finished. :default_wallbash: I'm enjoying myself so much with every part and every log entry, I can't hardly believe how small she is.

I'm flabbergasted with everything from the funnel's tires to the simulated rivets. A truly inspiration piece of craftsmanship.

Thank you very much Denis, Jeff and Greg,

for your nice words, much appreciated....

Thanks to all the other recent "likes" for clicking in...

Denis,

I had two diam. sizes of wire and chose the thinner (0,3 mm)  one, which would be 43 mm cable diam. on the actual ship ....

Jeff,

I still have`nt made up my mind yet for what project would be next on the drawing table....

Greg,

there is still quite a lot to be done......

all the rigging with blocks etc. for cargo derricks and beams, also the winches on the aft ship and aft mast,  all the ships boats, the davits and their rigging, and last not least, the command bridge with all its associated relings, bridge-wing cabs, and others, etc.  ...

Not only have you put up all the guy wires, but you even added the two wire clamps at the end of each one.  Here you are building at 1:144 while I am finding 1:100 difficult. Lovely detailing, Nils.

Nils....I encourage you to stay focused....and only when this fabulous ship is complete and on my mantle..should you even think of what model is next on the drawing board.

I made that mistake and I have 3 unfinished clippers...because the *Next* vessel couldn't wait to get from my mind to the drawing board to the bench.

Thank you so much for your appreciative coments Bob and Rob....,

Bob,

two wire clamps...., thats due to the learning experience I went through, I remember with the "Heinrich Kayser" steamship I only had one clamp per guy wire and it pulled / slipped out slowly, also I wanted to do something good and used stainless steel wires to avoid oxidizing, there was also trouble with the soldering of stainles steel wire, but all that was much regretted later on. With Gorch Fock and Pamir I started using exclusively tin galvanized steel wires and two clamps on the wire with more success

Rob,

correct, that is also my aim to complete a model and complete means to close the bonnet of the glass casing over the ship. Sometimes (per coinsidence) when viewing the net I come across information on ships, photos, details, etc. of which I consider it worth saving for a day I would need it. This is then put in a special file archive of my PC....

Update :

ladders to the midships platform, railings to the lower bridge, and supports for the upper bridge (railings still require some straight bending, wooden handrails and paint)

the structures in the light tower areas require some filler material before final painting....

Hi Nils

Once again, I'm totally blown away with what you've been able to achieve.  The work is so finely detailed, yet perfectly in-scale.  Just amazing!

What's even more surprising is the photo with your giant fingers in the way. Just that photo alone, emphasises how small the individual parts are.

Amazing!

Cheers

Patrick

Nils,

You keep on outdoing yourself. Al those smart details. I see some brass railings. Will you keep them brass, and if so, how are you going to keep them shiny and bright? I presume you are not walking around weekly with your polish and cloth ;)

wow Nils........the progress you've made is astounding........so much detail added !    you've really gone above and beyond ;)    I did notice a couple of eye bolts that were partially open.......did you not close them,  or is that from stress?   sorry if I sound picky.......but I'd rather say something,  rather than hear that something you may not have noticed right away,  spoils it for you ;)

Many thanks Grant, Patrick, Carl, Rob and Denis,

for your nice comments and words....

Grant,

agree, it helps quite well to compare with the own fingers...

Patrick,

pleased you like it, as you are the specialist for midget ships...

Carl,

the railings copper or brass will be painted in place, I`ll do some masking off along the decks before, before the wooden handrail goes on

Denis,

some of the blackened copper eye-bolts still require close-bending, but I must be carefull, as they sometimes break off, (this hapened a few times before already) and it is very tricky to place in new ones from under the deck (the end with the counter flat head).

At least they do`nt "open" due to stresses in the wires. Next time I`ll use brass or steel ones

Bob,

the idea is not bad Bob, look out when I start posting black and white photos of the build you should get suspicious.....:D

Mark,

I have studied the old photos I could find and am thankful for the details I was able to make out. Who knows, perhaps one day there might be a kit of this model, or at least a good plan

Nils - really nice work.  I never noticed the bolts holding on the blades of the propellers.  Exquisite.

Australian English 101

G'Day  all
In Australia we make a few words in a sentence into one longer word. We, I must admit, are a bit lazy in our speaking, but for us it's normal.
The reason why I'm writing this down, so other countries and their population might under stand our lingo. Some examples are:.

Lingo = language
Ozzie = Australian
Havta  = have to
Havtagree = have to agree etc
G'Day  = good day
Havagooday  = have a good day
Havagreatrip  = have a great trip etc

If you say it out loud long enough, I hope that you may understand our poor speech.

In Australia we use bloody a lot. Bloody is one of our best adjective to describe something so good or some times bad. Eg bloody fantastic is very good. Bloody terrible is very bad.

We also break down large words into a smaller/shorter word eg. Air conditioner  to Aircon.
There are many more facets to our unique language, above are only a small sample.
havagooday to all
