HMS Sovereign of the Seas by Sjors - DeAgostini - 1:84

Hello.......

I'm still here I think.

Busy with other things then building but.......I have an update  :D  :D

DeAgostini send me the replacements and I'm back on course.

The stern has her decorations and that's a lot !

And there is more coming.

I hope that the hull can carry all that metal......

Beware, I say it before and I will say it again, i'm not a painter.

I have done the best i could.

The last picture is just showing you the letters.

It is impossible to paint that so I have give it a layer of gold and blue and when it was dry, I have scratch a little away.

Sjors

Looking good, Sjors. To paint those raised letters I would use the dry brush technique. Dip your brush in the paint and then pass it several times over a paper until you see that the brush is not painting anymore. The brush still contains minute amounts of paint. Go to pass it now over the letters. If at first you see nothing happening Good Sign!!! Keep doing it and slowly you will see the letters starting to enhance. You can later touch up areas that got paint where they shouldn't.

I hope this makes sense and helps!

Best,

Ulises

Just another method to Highlight raised Letters, I used a Wallpaper Seam Roller, rolled through Gold Paint and removed the majority so that there was just a small amount of "Dry" stuff left, I then "Rolled" this over the Lettering and repeated until I was satisfied with the result. (The Seam Roller that I used had a hard but malleable plastic roller.)

(Worked nicely on the Cutty Sark Bow/Stern decorations.)

Cheers....HOF.

Hi there....

I have pain in my fingers of the typing around the forum but ok.

It has to be done !

@ Sam,

The Gnomes are just back from vacation.....what do you expect then ? :D

@ EJ,

Anja wants to scratch that one in the future.

I hope that she wants to do it in a smaller scale otherwise I had to move !!!!!

@ Pat,

I was a long such on the internet and finally I found them.....

But the hardest job was to paint them.

I wantend to paint them as she where looking in real.

And I think that I did a good job with that  :D  :D  :D

And now time for an little update.

A lot of decorations are in place at both side of the ship.

I also make the "naked " woman at the front  :D  :D

And when I was placing the railing I broke one piece in a few parts so I order new ones.....

When that is coming I can go further.

In the mean while I wil try to make a standard......

It's gonna be scratch but the shape is gonna be the same as the one from the Aggy.

I like that one, it is solid.

Hi my friends.

Thanks for the comment and I dressed the ladies  :)  :)

I'm to old to look at those naked figures all the time when I worked on her  :P

@ Sam,

You are so right about the Stage Coach !

I have to look in witch box I put it.

I know where the horses are.....

Is that counting ????? :P

@ OC,

Thanks for the compliment that you are thinking that I build the Willem Rex.......but no.......

I should be very proud that a model of mine is in the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.

The same museum where you can find the painting the Nightwatch from Rembrandt van Rijn......

That model ( What is build in 1698 ) ( if you can call it an model ) is standing in the middle of a hall.

And it is a beauty !!!!!!!!

They have more models in the basement and they are also beauty's !

If you want to see those photo's , let me know !

Anja wants to scratch the Willem Rex in a few years.

So I have to buy the book from Ab Hoving....

@ Bob,

Thanks

( and that for a master builder  :D  :D )

@ Pat,

I wish there where not that many ornamentation.

It cost me a lot of paint !!!

And there will be even more.... :omg:

@ Hennie,

Keep away form those lady's !

They are holding you all ready from the Aggy.

Maybe an update will help?  :D

@ Popeye,

Thanks also  :D  :D

@ Hof,

They are standing sexy ( if I may say so )  :D

Mr. Pucko,

...........( no comment )  :D  :D  :D  :D

Small update.

Because I'm waiting for Anja to finish the hammock netting I have done something to the SotS.

I don't know how you call it but between the decks there are fences and I have to drill holes in it , wide 12 mm......

At the top there should be a space left of 1,5 mm.

And you can guess wat happened.....58caa024230ee_Holeintheboard.thumb.jpg.9812edbbf1112ced27cf27e2730df3a0.jpg58caa0213dc54_Holeintheboard2.thumb.jpg.7da5c15ec100b9dff81b473665464fed.jpg58caa01e455a2_Bigholesintheboard.thumb.jpg.bc3e0fab11e7894dec2dbaf67cf57186.jpg

I dare not put a like to that!!!   it appears that you may need to do some scratch build'in.   patch'in it back together may not be the way to go {is that a crack in the center?}    if you are able to get some 1/16 flat stock {1/32 would be better}........insure that it will flex to the curvature that you need to obtain.   I'm sure that you have some 1/16 square strip handy.    bend the square stock to the desired curvature..........cut the flat stock to the size you need for the wall.   what will help you here,  is that the deck is likely shaped to the curvature as well........glue the parts you've cut to it.   frame the wall from behind with the curved square stock {along the top edges}.   with the top edge {you can frame it in more if you like} framed in,  you should be able to drill the holes without splintering.   I usually begin with small drills and work my way up.........finishing it off with round sanding sticks.

I've been there before........I'm sure others have too.   perhaps others can share a remedy to this problem.   you can fix it my friend! ;)

Nope... not going to like that.   What Denis suggested for fixing.   Before drilling in "new" material if you decide to scratch build it, paint the wood with white glue and water (50/50 mix).  When it dries it hardens and strengthens the wood.
