Thank you all for likes etc.

Cobr@: 7 storeys high...

Torbogdan: Yeah, no wonder she keeled over...

Wackowolf: thanks for watching...

Robin: I don't know if I should feel better or worse about it now...  :D

Anyway...

The dummy barrel supports are fitted. The plywood refused to bend. In the end I poured boiling water on them and fixed them until dry. When I loosened them they went back to almost straight again. So I glued them on while still wet, breaking a frame at the same time.

Here you see on the right some the wood I used to fix the broken frame with. And the bow fillers are in place.

And that's it for this month.  :( Now I have to wait another 4 weeks for the next shipment.

Have two decorations to paint, and maybe I will redo the lion heads for the gun port covers. I believe they should be yellowish and not beige. We'll see.

Thanks for watching...

Mr. Pucko

Bending plywood is so tough, and many times resulting with broken piece instead.

Has happened to me as well.

And now we have to wait another four weeks before seeing the next step. :(  ;)

At least you are not rushing this build. :)

Yes there's a fine line with plywood between soaking it long enough to bend and soaking too long so that the layers seperate

I always leave it at least 24 hours to dry out then it holds it's shape :)

Looks like you have a nice straight assembly for planking :)

Here's the first part of this shipments build log.

I'm afraid this part is not very exciting but...

The dummy barrel supports continued:

post-6862-0-29825600-1478211204_thumb.jpg

Next decks dummy barrel support:

Also the reinforcements for the former parts act as... well, support for various other parts.

Deck beams etc for the stern frames:

post-6862-0-25558400-1478211207_thumb.jpg

Could be deck supports at the bow:

post-6862-0-54974200-1478211208_thumb.jpg

More to come tomorrow and I think that part will be a bit more interesting...

So stay tuned...

May not be a very exciting phase of construction but it is a vital one.

I've told my boss that I would let him have one of my models if he would let me work on it while I was at work. He told me that I could as long as I was done with all my actual work. Unfortunately, my actual work never stops.... I really need a clone... :P

And here is the second part of this months shipment.

A overview of the hull:

post-6862-0-40712200-1478291196_thumb.jpg

Stern with extra bits on the frames:

They could have designed this better. Lots of waisted time getting all the little parts straight...

post-6862-0-53481600-1478291197_thumb.jpg

The support at the bow:

This should have been straight angles but turned out far from that. We'll see if this has any impact later on...

post-6862-0-94723700-1478291198_thumb.jpg

Hull again:

post-6862-0-37930900-1478291219_thumb.jpg

And now on to some planking:

post-6862-0-75693900-1478291681_thumb.jpg

Somewhere on the forum Ulises Victoria showed a nice variation of a 5-butt shift planking pattern. I decided to try it out here.

post-6862-0-30767700-1478291683_thumb.jpg

I prefer to cut and prepare 1 plank at the time.

post-6862-0-07579900-1478291685_thumb.jpg

This pattern is quite pleasant to the eye...

post-6862-0-95625900-1478291686_thumb.jpg

And here we have the finished planking:

post-6862-0-83474500-1478291688_thumb.jpg

And the well that does the false lower deck upon where the grating will go:

post-6862-0-34657300-1478291690_thumb.jpg

I thought about darkening the planks but decided to leave them as they are so if anything shows through the grating it will be easier to see the planking. The pencil smudges from the edges make them look a little worn...

post-6862-0-81004900-1478291691_thumb.jpg

And that, dear followers, is all the parts built for now. later there will be some painting of decorations.

Until then...

You have done the planking with the same method i use, to me it looks great nice neat joints without looking overcrowded with them :)
