Hi Patrick,

I'll see what I can find. I agree- hull plans are probably a no-go, even if he had them. But I might get a description that could be useful to you. If I get anything, I'll send it to you directly.

And yes, I believe that Palmer Johnson is functionally out of business. I think owner might still be trying to sell stuff, but I'm 90% certain the yard is closed.

Thanks Ben!  I'd be eternally grateful.  Shame about P&J, though.  I really liked the radical nature of their designs.

Looking forward to your next project Patrick. Radical is an understatement I think. It would be helpful getting a few pics of the interior and furnishing. Just a word by word description of how the decks were laid out. A general verbal description of the hull perhaps?

Cheers,

Piet, The Flying Dutchman.

Hi Piet.  Yep, you’re absolutely right.  Radical she is, that’s for sure.  I’ll put some more info when I create the Build Log, but as far as I can see, she is a trimaran (hence the two sponsons on each side of the rear of the hull).

Thanks Denis!

I reckon you’re right about the paint work. She’s scrubbing up rather well, I must say😀.

As for my next boat....have you ever made a decision, only to secretly wonder why you made that decision in the first place?  Seriously Denis, this new ship scares the hell out of me. But oh, what a challenge ...

Have a great Easter weekend.

Cheers.

Hello Patrick

Happy belated Birthday, sorry I missed your big day but do hope that you got an extra big piece of cake and ice cream. My Admiral Bernadette and I hope that you received all of the new toys that you had hoped for and maybe a few more for good luck. Shadow sure is looking great and we are waiting patiently for her launch and also for the start of your next build,                                                                                                                                                               ENJOY.

Regards   Lawrence

Hi Lawrence

Many thanks for the birthday wishes!  Hopefully it won't be long before my new boat can start....can't wait.

Patrick,

Amazing work!  The layering and nesting of tiny, fine details requires lots of time to enjoy and comprehend.  I spent quite some time catching up on this thread and little jewel of a model over the weekend.  Beautiful work.

Good morning everyone!

Thanks for all of your comments and Likes.  Greatly appreciated.

A quick update - I’ve finally decided upon how I want to display Shadow.  In this case, (as in keeping with my preference for a minimalist approach, so as not to detract from the model itself), I’ve decided to use a plank of pine wood, polished with Tan shoe polish and three brass rods to secure the hull.

What do you think?

Cheers.

Shadow’s going to join the rest of the fleet in a large glass display cabinet, where she should remain relatively dust free.

Let’s hope so, anyway.

Cheers and all the best!

I think he means...are you going to clear coat the stand.  never though to use shoe polish for stain.........pine done in Angus beef........very original ;)   your minimalist approach is quite maximal.........you must be on the verge of calling it finished.  for that,  I say congratz on a super interesting project.   you very well could put this one in the book of world's records,  for the most stuff jammed into a small scale model.   she displays nicely too....very well done!

Hi Denis

Ahhhh!  How could I have misinterpreted Mark’s comment.  Doh.

Actually, I came up with the idea of using shoe polish years ago out of sheer laziness.  It didn’t take me long, however, before I realised that shoe polish is waxy and therefore, doesn’t need any varnish or glazing to protect it!  Bingo😀

Thanks also, for your comments about Shadow.  I dunno about “a world record’, but, I’m just happy that you and everyone else on MSW like it.

Enjoy the rest of the week and have a great weekend!

Cheers.

Hi Patrick - your presentation of Shadow is elegant in its simplicity.  I've never heard of using shoe polish as a finish on wood, but it certainly seems to do the trick.  Congratulations on another great build.  Your fleet is quite impressive, and I'm looking forward to seeing what's next.

Hi folks

Many thanks for all of your comments and Likes!

Well.....tonight, I had one of those ‘Oh wow” moments.  You see, after much hesitation and deliberation, I finally bit the bullet and attempted Shadow’s boarding ladder. It didn’t turn out too bad, I reckon.

Whilst I was at it, I also added the aerials that sit atop the sky deck’s roof.  Added to that, I also fashioned three flags, two that adorn the aft decks and the third that sits proudly at Shadow’s bow.  A slight breeze has set them gently fluttering whilst Shadow’s floats serenely on the water..

I hope you like the photos.

Have a great weekend!

Cheers.
