I have completed the pumps, which are now installed.

Also mounted her on a proper base and pedestals.

I am going to leave her half rigged (foremast only) for the moment.

So a few repairs of chainplates and deadeyes to do, and pendant flag to be hung, and then I will be finished....definitely in the final furlong.

Slowly progressing to finish line.

I created a Red Ensign on 50gsm tracing paper...two sheets laminated together with CA, with ensign printed on each, on my home printer.

Probably a bit large....but I like it that way.

Then added rope trim using 0.5mm thread.

Furls are quite easy to form without any special treatment.

Happy with result. Photos of it temporarily attached to model.

Beautiful work Tim, you must be proud. What is your next kit?  I have the Scottish Maid ,  Endeavour and Bluenose 11.... So far have half completed the Scottish Maid..... It's a great hobby . Been building models since I was a young boy. Now 70. It's the perfect retirement hobby (for me anyway). Once again congratulations on a museum quality build....Jim Cleland.... South  Australia

Thanks Jim.

I have still a few things to finish. I need to mount the red ensign and a few pennants, and fix a couple of broken chain plates. Then we are all done.

My next boat is the Master Korabel Phoenix. I have set up a build log here. But not updated recently.

I am going to call this project finished now. It was always my plan to create a "half-rigged" model with sails only on the foremast. This give the model a sense of being a real, dynamic sailing machine....without obscuring all the details of the deck and rigging.

There are a few tiny details to tidy up...but I am already caught up in my next two projects!!

So here are a few final photos.

Very nice! She was one of my favorites of the models I have built. I love the wy she looks the shape of her hull and the history behind her development. You have a fine representation of her!

A beautiful ship, well executed. I have a question about her rig. Rather, the lead of her lines. There's a row of pins above the windlass. Seems to me if the lines lead there, (jib downhauls etc.) are made fast in that location, they'd get in the way of the windlass. Is that one of the issues with the quality of the kit or is that actually where those lines were belayed?

Hi All,

I am a complete novice and am attempting to complete building the Scottish Maid model which my late father started.I am having some trouble seeing detail on the plans and need some help to see how the Upper foreyard and the foreyard are attached to the mast. Some detailed photos or plans for this would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Regards

Steev

CI am especially interested in all the hooks used in this build. I haven't seen any used on other ships. Were these in the plans or sourced elsewhere?

Larry.

I just made these hooks out of copper wire. I think it was 0.5 or 0.6mm diameter. I form the hooks using round nose pliers filed down to a small enough diameter.

Sorry for being so slow to respond.

I took a break from this website for a while.

Tim
