Sanson by hof00 - FINISHED - Artesania Latina - 1/50 - 19th century tug

Thanks Chap,

Can't dull them down, Deckhouse and associated LED's are firmly affixed.

As stated to Carl, the Nav. lights/Masthead lights should be better after the Brass Shrouds go on them. (Another challenge I guess.)

Thanks for the suggestions/Ideas, very much appreciated!!

That's wot the Forum is all about. 🙂

Cheers and Regards,

Harry. (HOF)

No worries 'arry, you can sail it to Rotterdam, by the time it arrives the lights will have dulled down considerably because of the weather and such ;) An other option is to light them when it is very foggy ...

Hi All,

Long time, no post.... (One day past one year....)

been getting the house/gardens of my "Forever" home ready for sale, not 100% happy, but that's another story.

So, "Chipping" away at the Tug over the past few weeks, when I get the inspiration, it's not looking too bad, no correction, it looks like !@&*

Its a rebuild, first cut wasn't good.

Anyway, got the 1st planking complete, Light Boxes for the Nav. Lights and wiring complete apart from Masthead Lights.

Bulwark Rubbing Strakes and Keel added, Second Walnut Planking to follow soonish.

The Stern Post is too long, but that's A/L.

The LED's work ok after planking and I continue to check this after a day/night's work.... I cannot get to the Resistor N/W as it is now sealed in the Hull.

Anyway, after a few more hours sanding away my errors, it will be a matter of Masking, Painting, Masking, Painting....

I promise to get a few photos up very soon. 😀 (Within the next 24 Hours)

Regards to all.

Cheers....HOF.

O.k.

Trying to get back into it.... It's been a while, that's o.k.

In between getting the house ready for sale, buying another, no one can move given the current climate....

So, pulled out the Rudder/Sternpost and associated components.

Sternpost is at least 10mm too long so carved out the first layer of planking to accept, still too long so will have to make the Keel a bit thinner.

Once I have things fitting, I'll try to "Articulate" the Rudder.

Doesn't look to flash at this time....

(Second Planking can then follow.)

A couple of photos....

Cheers....HOF.

Hi All,

A Mock-Up....

Progress? I think the "Tear Down" has been worthwhile thus far.

Looks like a bit like a Christmas Tree....

I guess this is soon the time of year.

LED installed in Deck House/Engine Room (High Intensity LED's Not Cheap!!)

Installed also in the Wheelhouse and "Navigation" lights

Mast Lights will come eventually, wiring installed.

I'll drill out the Nav' and Masthead Lights to accept the LED's

Hi All,

It's been a while since I posted for my sadly forgotten build....

I have sort of reconciled myself to continuing this....

There's not a whole lot of stuff left to do, really.... More a Planking an Painting exercise. (Masking is a pain but I'm getting more patient with it.)

There are some things that need attention before painting, touch ups on superstructure, etc.

Second Hull Cover should be o.k.

Anyway, a few pictures as the build is from ten minutes ago.

(Any comments/criticism most welcome. (Please remember this is pretty much a Tear Down/Re-Build.))

(At least it's not too much of a wreck!! 😊)

Cheers....HOF.

Quite the contrary - the main stuff is all good. Looks like it just needs a bit of tidying up to be a model to be proud of.

'Hi Chap,

Yup the move to Manaia, South Taranaki went well, Cats assimilated and Ships moved without any incident.

Been here a tad over 4 months, its quiet but I like that.

Just finished A/L Fulgaro as a gift for some very accommodating owners of Opunake Holiday Park who provided some discounted accommodation before taking possession of this property.

So, Sanson is back on the agenda, I sort of need to this before attempting anything else, even though I am sorely tempted by the Flying Cloud.

(Yup, the "Lady" on the bench is Sanson as per yesterdays photos. 🙂)

Cheers and Regards,

Harry.

Thank you....

It's good to know the LED N/W is still functional.... (I must have done something right. 🙂)

The Mast LED's are going to be interesting. I think I'll taper the Mast first then rebate for the wires.)Should be o.k. (I hope....)

A "Tender" re-start....

I initially thought the Stern Post was too long, wrong, I needed to look at the length of the Keel, not the plans.....

So, after "Gouging" the initial, (First),  planking to make things fit, I have filled in the "Errors" and I'll continue tomorrow once fillers are cured.

I am unsure if I can "Articulate" the Rudder at this stage, it would be nice....

Anyhow, tomorrow's another day.... (Clark Gable - Gone With The Wind....😀)

Small update....

Sanded Hull First Cover, (Lime)

Pretty happy with the Hull thus far.

I think that I'll do the Walnut second Planking prior to completing/painting the Superstructure.

So, the Walnut Planking takes about 1.5 strakes per run, it's a long Hull.

I took some photos, Stern Post and Plan/Sheer view.

If I take the "Plan" view as opposed to the actual Keel dimensions, (Keel already attached),  I will not have to rewove 8 - 10mm from the height of the Stern Post/Rudder. (Have a look and give me your opinion!!)

I guess this is an A/L thing.... (Plan Error?)

I plan to remove a small rebate, Bow/Keel, to accommodate the 0.5mm second cover at these junctures. (Sharp Chisel)

I also plan to complete the Superstructure post second planking, so much dross/dust needs to be removed first....

Cheers and Regards,

HOF.

Small update:

(Time to "Dip my oar in" with Sanson builds....)

So, needed to know if the Masthead LED's still functioned. wiring o.k. and LED's o.k.

Next challenge is to figure out hoe to transport the wiring up the Mast.

I had one ready and tapered but ended in a bit of a disaster.....

My next thought is to construct a "Sacrificial" V grove sled, place a dowel in it, cut in half using my Proxxon saw.

Once done, I can hold the ends/middle together to taper.

Remove wood from the center of the (Dowel) Mast, (Needle File), install wiring/LED's.

I thought the plan was my only option after a bit of thought.

Comments?

Hi Harry,

Catching up on the build.  She looks grand.  I like your idea for getting the wiring up the mast. I can't remember which replica tall ship that I visited, but that is the essentially the same way that they dealt with getting the wiring up the sailing mast.

cheers.

Thanks Chap,

I am waiting on a Lathe Drive Belt for my MC1018 Lathe so I can turn the Mast....

I sawed a length of Dowel in half and glued it back together, (In about 10mm quarters), so I can turn it.

Once turned, the idea is to separate the halves and groove each half to accommodate the wiring. Once everything is in place, (Inside/Outside the Mast), I can glue the halves back together and "Step" it. (That's the plan anyway.)

While I wait, I'm making a foray into the "Dark Side" with a 1/400 Academy Titanic for my partner, she is a big Titanic fan!!

This is not as easy as I thought, PE is a new and Fiddly medium to me at the mo.

(Waiting again on a Vallejo Paint delivery one day soon.... 🙂)

So, the Drive Belt is certainly taking a very long time.... The New Zealand Vendors don't seem to be able to find this "Consumable."

(I saw one on Amazon but have held off ordering, not for much longer though.... 🙂)

(I seem to be stuck in the "Waiting" parallel reality.... 🙂)

Cheers....HOF.

Hi Harry,

Any updates?  I'm still waiting to see her in the water :)

Hi Chap,

Sorry, no updates for some time I'm afraid....

It's still sitting on the bench, somewhat forlorn, behind the Bismarck.

I'll get to it one of these days but the Bismarck has assumed priority.

I don't think it will touch water though as there is already a hole in the Hull for the lighting Mains Adapter wiring.... 🙂

Something more suitable for RC conversion is sitting at home in storage, A/L Marina II.

(So many ships, so little time.... 🙂)

How are things going 'arry. I haven't been on the form for quite some time. Still not modelling since I moved to last February. Gawd it takes such a long time to get things sorted out. Still looking for modelling tools and materials. Missing parts from models which I already prefab'd, and are now somewhere in the black hole of moving ...

Did you get your belt yet?

Cheers mate
