The ramshead block and lanyard between block and knight for the fore yard tie has to be rigged  already now, because later on it will not be accessible any more. The black thread through the upper part of the block is temporary only to be able to pull the block up through the small opening and will be replaced later by the tie.

Grating and opening for the lanyard added:

When I took measurements for making the poop bulkhead I discovered that I've cut the toptimbers in the aft part too low for the required height of the great cabin. To remedy this I glued a square piece of wood over the toptimbers which gave me the required additional heigth

post-359-0-00728100-1396602843_thumb.jpg

Into this I cut slots for an extension of the toptimbers

and tzhe outside was covered by on additional strake of clinker pkanking

Poop Bulkhead:

There is a saying "a picture tells more than a thousand words". So here are a few "thousand words" about making of the poop bulkhead:

Thanks Rudolf. :)  Your assumption is correct.

Railings at quarterdeck and poop:

I suppose the following pics are self explaining and don't need much words:

are you planning to fully rig the model ?  Beautiful work.

Thanks Brian. I have not decided yet.

I have made already the lower masts and the bowsprit and put them in store for later. I will in any case rig my Mayflower http://modelshipworld.com/index.php?/topic/514-mayflower-by-model-mariner-pob-scale-1-64-own-reconstruction/

on which I work in parallel, maybe I will rig Berlin also in parallel, maybe not.

So even if I decide not to rig the Berlin model immediately after finishing the hull I have the option to do so later.

In the last post I stated that the railings were finished, this was a mistake. there was still another railing to be done at the aft end of the waist, which is shown in the next picture (not yet stained).

post-359-0-29423700-1399111540_thumb.jpg

I was also not content with the windows in the great cabin, so I cut them out and set in new ones, the railings at the ships side are now all done:

And now the last railing is the one at the front of the forecastle:

The head:

I started building of the head with the lower cheeks: these were cut out from a piece of maple (with a little bit extra flesh)

post-359-0-19315000-1404313186_thumb.jpg

bent to the correct shape and then sanded to the required dimension and shape:

post-359-0-97997100-1404312971_thumb.jpg

After painting the cheeks with gold paint I glued on a thin black strip:

Cheeks glued in place:

The head (continued):

Making of the upper cheeks is more or less a repetition of the last job:

cutting out the cheeks (a little bit larger than required), bending and sanding to shape:

Thanks for the comments and likes  :)

The figure head has been painted and glued on.

I have installed at first the headrails and then fitted the head timbers. Maybe it would have been better to do it in reverse, but this is how I did it:

Nice work on the head, Klaus.  You just do it the way it works for you.
